Weekend Getaway at the Thompson San Antonio — Riverwalk
Curator’s statement

Kid-free weekend? Yes please! My husband and I had the opportunity to allow our kids to spend a quality weekend with grandparents so we could head out to San Antonio early before a work conference. We had the privilege of staying at the Thompson San Antonio — Riverwalk and loved every second of our stay. This Michelin Guide-recommended hotel is located on the riverwalk in a quiet location and can be the perfect weekend getaway.

First impressions

We were kindly greeted by the valet who took our bags straight to the front desk for us, and then welcomed by the lovely receptionist. Upon walking in, you notice the dark tones and soft lighting that you will experience throughout your stay.

Accommodation

We had reserved a king room and were upgraded to a suite. Upon walking into the room, you are greeted with the dark, warm tones and beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows. Once you are through the entry way you enter your sitting room with a fully stocked bar and retro bluetooth speaker that can set the vibe in the room whether it's setting the mood or a party! There are two entrances to the bedroom with pocket doors to separate your space. There is a beautiful pedestal bathtub that welcomes you into the bathroom. There are plenty of places to store your luggage and clothing in the wooden cabinetry. Texas style is found in the bedroom with a cow rug and leather bench.

Dining

Landrace is located on the first floor of the hotel with endless wine offerings and seasonal food offerings. The scallops were to die for and we enjoyed their tacos with the half chicken. For breakfast, we ordered room service and couldn’t get enough of their delicious brisket Benedict, chefs kiss! For lunch we enjoyed wagyu sliders with fries on the pool deck while enjoying some delicious adult beverages. And to make it even better, there is a rooftop restaurant and bar to either begin your weekend morning with brunch or to end your evening with a nightcap. Basically there is no need to even leave the premises if you don’t want to!

Activities and spa

There is a gym that overlooks the pool with plenty of machines and equipment to meet all workout level needs. The spa is located on the second floor and unfortunately we were unable to work any services into our stay this time. Then of course there is walking the riverwalk since it is located steps from the entrance to the hotel.

Local attractions

Located next door to the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, you can catch a show or you can venture on the Riverwalk and find yourself in a local outdoor dining experience. You can also take in The Pearl area for local eats and shopping. Of course, don’t miss checking out the Alamo. All options are great for a stroll or a quick ride share. If you are in town on a weekend morning, be sure to check out the local markets they have at the Pearl. And for any music/jazz lovers, you will want to find a show to enjoy at Jazz, TX.

Need to know

Whether you're looking for a quick little couples getaway or girls/bachelorette weekend, the Thompson San Antonio - Riverwalk is the spot for you. Stay the whole time on the beautiful property without ever leaving or take a stroll to a local farmers market on a leisurely Saturday morning. You won’t be disappointed with your stay.
