Curator’s statement
Why LAAX? Honestly, it was a gamble. Finding good snow in April felt like chasing a unicorn, but this Swiss Alps resort delivered in ways I didn’t expect. It’s got everything — epic snowparks (even if you wipe out like me), stunning mountain views (when the clouds finally clear) and a chill vibe that’s hard to beat. This trip wasn’t just about boarding — it was about stepping outside my comfort zone and realizing why this spot is such a favorite for snow lovers. LAAX isn’t just a resort — it’s a whole mood.

April isn’t exactly prime time for fresh powder, but we weren’t ready to pack it up. We were in total denial about the season ending and just had to find one more weekend trip. Enter LAAX. This Swiss Alps gem promised everything from top-notch half-pipes to beginner-friendly runs — and it delivered. Sure, the first two days were just clouds, clouds and more clouds, but when they finally cleared? The views were unreal.

We stayed at Riders Hotel, which was the perfect mix of convenience and cool. It’s a short walk to the slopes (I'm talking maybe 5 minutes) and had everything we needed. Across the street, there’s a gas station where we grabbed essentials — yes, boxed wine counts — and the bar/club scene in the hotel was surprisingly fun. The vibe was buzzing but not so wild that you couldn’t crash peacefully after a long day of shredding.

This was my first time attempting snowparks, and let me tell you — it’s harder than it looks. Did I fail? Absolutely. Did I have the best time doing it? Also, yes. Compared to other incredible spots I’ve boarded in Europe (looking at you, Garmisch, Zugspitze and Lermoos, LAAX takes the crown for its energy, terrain and just the overall experience. Plus, nothing beats wrapping up the last run of the day and grabbing a cold beer at one of the mountain bars. It’s the kind of moment that makes you stop, soak it all in and think, This is what it’s all about.

Need to know
Snow in April? Yes, Please: If you’re chasing late-season powder, LAAX is where it’s at. (Just be sure to check the snow reports.)
Stay Close: Riders Hotel was a game-changer. It’s close, convenient and the perfect home base.
Bring Snacks: The food on the mountain is overpriced and meh. Pack your own or treat yourself to an après-ski instead.
For All Levels: Whether you’re cruising the groomers or trying your luck at the snowparks, there’s something for every skill level here.
