As my husband and I set out to plan our honeymoon, we wanted a destination that offered a blend of adventure, culture and unforgettable experiences. Peru quickly became the top choice, and it did not disappoint. Our journey took us from the bustling streets of Lima to the serene heights of Machu Picchu, leaving us with memories that last a lifetime.

Our adventure began in Lima, Peru's vibrant capital. For four days, we immersed ourselves in the city's rich culture and dynamic atmosphere. Lima's streets are a maze of history, art and modernity, each corner offering a new surprise. We found ourselves getting delightfully lost in its charming neighborhoods, from the bohemian district of Barranco to the historical center with its colonial architecture.

The food in Lima is an experience in itself. Peruvian cuisine is renowned worldwide. We indulged in fresh ceviches, bursting with the flavors of lime and cilantro, and paired them with pisco sours, a cocktail that quickly became our favorite. Every meal was a celebration of taste, from street food vendors to upscale restaurants.

From Lima, we caught a scenic flight to Cuzco. The view from the plane was breathtaking, as the Andes mountains stretched out beneath us. Upon arriving in Cuzco, we had to take some time to acclimate to the altitude. It was a bit of a challenge, but it gave us the perfect excuse to explore the city at a leisurely pace and enjoy more incredible food.

Cuzco is a city steeped in history. As the former capital of the Inca Empire, its streets are lined with remnants of ancient walls and Spanish colonial architecture. We wandered through markets, visited museums, and marveled at the blend of cultures. Our time in Cuzco was both enriching and relaxing, as we spent our nights at the charming and historic Andean Wings Boutique Hotel.

With our backpacks ready and spirits high, we embarked on the Inca Trail. This was the part of our trip we were most excited about, and it exceeded all expectations. The trail was challenging, but the beauty of the surrounding landscape made every step worthwhile. We trekked through lush forests, crossed rivers and climbed steep paths, all the while surrounded by breathtaking vistas. The passionate and knowledgeable guides of Alpaca Expeditions added to the experience, making it more than just a physical journey but a communal one. The anticipation built as we got closer to our final destination.

After days of hiking, we reached the Sun Gate. As we crested the hill, the sight of Machu Picchu spread out before us was nothing short of magical. It felt like stepping back in time, the ancient ruins standing majestically against the backdrop of verdant mountains. It was a moment of awe and wonder, one that we will never forget.

The following morning, we were woken up by the crowing of a rooster, signaling the start of another beautiful day. We made our way to Machu Picchu at dawn to catch the sunrise. The first light of the day bathed the ruins in a golden glow, and the sight was truly mesmerizing. Our guide shared with us the rich history and significance of Machu Picchu, deepening our appreciation for this incredible place.

Our honeymoon in Peru was more than just a vacation; it was an adventure that brought us closer together and left a lasting impression on both of us. From the culinary delights of Lima to the historic wonders of Cuzco, and the awe-inspiring trek to Machu Picchu, every moment was filled with discovery and joy. As we returned home, we carried with us the spirit of adventure and the beautiful memories we created, ready to embark on the next chapter in our lives together.
