Renowned for its stunning natural beauty. It features lush mountains behind it (if you look closely you can see many waterfalls in those mountains), soft sandy beaches and vibrant turquoise waters. It offers a tranquil setting perfect for swimming, surfing and kayaking or paddle-boarding, making it the ideal destination for both relaxation and adventure.

The property where 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay sits used to be St. Regis Princeville. It took many millions of dollars to become a 1 Hotel. One main difference is the amount of beautiful greenery that is all over the hotel. At 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay, you will be immersed in lush gardens, and ocean-view rooms that blend seamlessly with the island’s natural beauty. The hotel uses reclaimed materials in the décor, organic bedding, and as an LEED-certified property, cool energy-efficient systems throughout the property. These features include LED lights, energy recovery, HAVC systems and better insulation. According to 1 Hotels, these systems save roughly 20% in annual energy costs.

As I arrived at the resort, I was immediately in awe over the beautiful open-air lobby, featuring a lush, live tropical garden with water features. A central point to the hotel, beautifully integrating nature with the resort’s design, a common theme beautifully executed throughout the hotel.

The check-in process kicked off with a relaxing experience. They provided me with fresh juice and seated me in a big comfy chair to wait for one of the agents to check me in. After check-in, I found my way to my room, a Mountain View Terrace King with a little bit of an ocean view facing the pool deck. I enjoyed the lush plants sheltering the terraces, which made the space feel a bit more private. All rooms feature pillow-top mattresses, sustainably sourced bedding, Bamford bath products, a Nespresso machine, soft robes and slippers, a yoga mat, and a full-length mirror. Some features I wasn’t expecting were the fresh filter water spout in the bathroom with what looked to be upcycled drinking glasses and a whole bidet, which was a nice surprise.

The room design felt open and calming, with the use of natural colors and elements and the window in the shower facing the large floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall sliding doors to the terrace. In front of the glass doors is a spacious L-shape sectional accompanied by a coffee table perfect for lounging with a cup of coffee in the morning or late-night in-room dining.

However, my favorite place to enjoy a cup of coffee was the balcony outside Neighbors Cafe up on the 9th floor. Which looked out over the Pacific Ocean and at the lush landscape of Kaua'i. Neighbors serve local coffee from Hanalei Coffee Roasters and an abundance of other local businesses. They also serve pastries, cold-pressed juices and Kombucha!

As an early riser, I usually enjoy my coffee before 1 Kitchen opens for breakfast. Once the doors swing open, I make my way down one floor to take full advantage of my complimentary breakfast buffet. This is a special perk I can arrange as a Fora Advisor. The buffet features a stunning spread, with a central table filled with fresh pastries, including my favorite malasadas. There’s an omelet bar, a variety of rotating breakfast dishes and a selection of hot and cold cereals, along with toast and bagels topped to your liking. And you can't forget the fresh-pressed juices — the POG is always my go-to.

1 Kitchen also offers plated options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menus highlight seasonal dishes, emphasizing sustainability and health, with choices ranging from fresh seafood to plant-based creations. The dining experience is designed to be relaxed and enjoyable, inviting guests to savor each bite while taking in the breathtaking views of Hanalei Bay.

Next Stop on the little food tour is Welina Terrace, where the panoramic views of Mount Makana and Hanalei Bay set the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. As the sun sets, the sky transforms into a beautiful watercolor masterpiece, adding to the serenity of the moment. Whether you're sipping a vibrant cocktail made with housemade artisan syrups or savoring Japanese-inspired dishes crafted from fresh, local ingredients, Welina Terrace invites you to unwind and immerse yourself in the beauty around you.

One of the best parts of dining here is participating in the nightly sunset ritual, which honors Hawaiian culture and enhances the already stunning atmosphere. The carefully curated drink menu features a selection of Hawai'ian rums, agave spirits, Japanese whiskeys, craft beers and sustainable wines. The vibe is made even more magical with live music, filling the air with soothing sounds as the sun dips below the horizon. Some of my personal favorites on the menu include the Chili Hamachi, Kaua’i Nigiri Flight and the Spicy Tuna Roll. Each dish is bursting with flavor and showcases the best of the island's ingredients.

When the sun is high and the temperature rises, the pool deck at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay is the place to be. The pool is just steps away from the beach, making it easy to stroll along the shoreline and then cool off in the refreshing water. And yes, the views from the pool are absolutely stunning, with the ocean stretching out before you while you relax under the Hawai'ian sun.

For a true vacation indulgence, head over to the Sandbox Poolside Bar, where you can sip on a Frosé Pink Flamingo while enjoying casual bites like pizza. Picture this: lounging on a daybed with an ice-cold beer in hand, enjoying a slice of pizza and soaking up the island vibes. It’s the perfect way to unwind. Don’t forget to check out Wai’oli, located right next to The Sandbox, where you can cool off with some of the most delicious shave ice on the island. Locally crafted syrups, soft-serve ice cream, island-made gelato and natural toppings make this treat extra special. For a fun twist, try adding single-batch local rums to your shaved ice — trust me, it’s a game-changer. These portions are huge, so sharing with a friend is a great option!
