Best Hotels Near Pantheon, Rome for Every Kind of Traveler
Curator’s statement

I lived in Rome for several years and whenever I return I love to stay at a hotel near the Pantheon because of its neighborhood feel and proximity to Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain and Campo dei Fiori. Plus, some of my favorite truly Roman trattorias (Maccheroni, Ginger) cafes (Tazza d’Oro) and specialty shops are a short walk from Piazza Rotunda (where the Pantheon is located). Nothing beats early morning or late evening walks by this masterpiece constructed by Emperor Hadrian in 126 AD. There are wonderful hotels near the Pantheon and many with sensational rooftop terraces with views of the architectural marvel - at a range of price points. One is a property that has always been a treat and the other two are properties where I laid my head as a student of archaeology.

Here is my list of favorites:

Pantheon Iconic Hotel

This Marriott property (part of the Autograph Collection) encompasses the very best of the Eternal City. Far from a traditional Marriott property, the Pantheon Iconic fuses luxury (high-tech rooms, divine beddings, Aqua di Parma toiletries, rain showers) with the city’s architectural and historical majesty. The property boasts a spectacular roof terrace with the Pantheon’s dome feels to be within an arm’s length. Breakfast is served on the terrace - what better way to start your day in Rome? The terrace is popular during the evening for aperitifs, dinner or a nightcap at Divinity (rooftop lounge and restaurant) or the hotel’s Michelin-star restaurant, Idylio by Apreda, led by Chef Francesco Apreda. Evening service on the roof is open to guests not staying at the hotel - highly recommend the terrace!

Albergo del Senato

This mainstay hotel dating to the 19th century is just steps from the Pantheon; you cannot get any closer! This is a 3-star accommodation; it’s location and accessible nightly rates make it the perfect fit for some travelers. The elevator is a little slow, the rooms and bathrooms are small-ish (and a little dated), but the hotel is super clean and run by an exceptional front desk and concierge staff. The hidden gem of this hotel is its sensational rooftop terrace - wind up a narrow staircase and marvel at the Pantheon in front of you. Bring your own bottle of wine and enjoy the evening!

Try to get a room with a view!

9Hotel Cesari

The oldest hotel in Rome (opened in 1787) packs a triple punch: location between the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain, roof terrace (for breakfast or evening aperitifs) and accessible price point (3 stars).

Need to know

I've suggested (and stayed at) the Pantheon Iconic, Albergo del Senato and 9Hotel Cesari. The first is the most luxurious of the group (some large suites accomodate a family of four) while Albergo del Senato and 9Hotel Cesari are geared towards the budget traveler (yet offer roof terraces that make them feel 5-star!)
