Curator’s statement
Traveling solo with kids is no joke. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart! As parents, we want to give our kids amazing, worldly experiences, but let’s be real... we deserve to feel like we’re on vacation too. That’s where Disney Cruise Line came in for me, especially the Marvel Day at Sea option. It struck the perfect balance, giving my son an unforgettable adventure while making sure I could actually relax and recharge. Even five years later, I’m still raving about it!

Disney has always made my marketing heart happy when it comes to attention to detail, and the Disney Cruise Line didn’t disappoint. They truly think of everyone — constant entertainment for all ages and a staff that’s nothing short of incredible. Everyone we met, from the cleaning crew who left the cutest towel animals and little surprises on our beds to the dining team who brought so much fun and shared stories from around the world, seemed to genuinely love being part of the magic.
As a solo parent, what I appreciated most, even before we left, was knowing this trip would actually feel like a vacation for both my son and me. Every other trip has been a balancing act, but this time, I knew I’d have moments just for myself while my son was safely taken care of. I especially loved the parent walkthrough of the kids' zone. It gave me such peace of mind seeing everything he’d get to enjoy.
From a business perspective, I was so impressed by the local guides Disney partnered with for excursions. Our kayaking guide at Castaway Cay shared so much local knowledge, which made the experience even richer. Even when I had a little panic attack while snorkeling, my second excursion guide made sure I still had a great time. It felt good knowing Disney supports local communities while creating unforgettable experiences.
Pre-trip must-haves:
Download the Disney Cruise Navigator app. It’s a lifesaver for keeping in touch with family, the kids zone staff and even those sitting with you at dinner (they stay with you the whole trip!). Just note it only works while you’re on the cruise.

For introverts like me:
Bring headphones with pre-downloaded music or audiobooks. I didn’t realize how much I’d appreciate popping back into my room throughout the day to recharge.
Skipping the window and veranda might have saved some cash, but I definitely wish I would have snagged one considering how much I stopped by my room for some solo me time.

Must-do:
The adults-only piano bar at night was my happy place. It was the perfect way to wind down with a bubbly drink after a full day.
The adult-only brunch or dinner setting (on my list for my next trip).
Schedule a spa trip or wine tasting on sea day!
Catch a pre-dinner Broadway-Style Show

Need to know
What I wish I’d known before this cruise? Sign up for every excursion or experience you might want to do once they're available. I hesitated because I didn’t want to hold a spot if I wasn’t sure, especially since I wasn’t sure how much my son would enjoy the kids' zone. But that meant I missed out on some incredible adult-only brunches, dinners and other excursions. I didn’t realize until it was too late that there was a deadline to cancel without penalty if plans changed.
So here’s my #1 pro tip: Book it all upfront and keep an eye on those free cancellation deadlines for your final decision!
Another thing I’d do differently? I’d 1000% spend the extra money on a room with added personal space and fresh air. While there are plenty of adult-only areas on the ship to relax in, nothing beats the peace and serenity of your own private space with a view. Trust me, it’s worth it!
Lastly? Book five days, even if you’re unsure. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about my first cruise, but those five days flew by, and I found myself wishing I’d booked a longer trip!
