The Lafayette Hotel: The Hippest Boutique Hotel in San Diego
Curator’s statement

My first experience at The Lafayette was many years ago when my bridal party hosted my bachelorette weekend at this hip North Park Hotel. More recently this property has undergone a 31 million dollar transformation. We occupied two very different rooms at The Lafayette. A pool side two queen and a two bedroom bungalow. I would recommend this hotel to any client looking to for a unique boutique hotel experience.

The Lafayette Hotel, Swim Club and Bungalow sits on a two and a half acre lot in the North Park neighborhood in San Diego. Its Colonial style hotel was originally built in 1946 and quickly became a popular vacation spot for young Hollywood celebrities of its time. The property has recently been completely restored yet still holds true to its 1940s glamor.

The pool is the main focal point of this Hotel, with the majority of the 141 rooms walking straight out to the pool's deck. You can't help but get the feeling of nostalgia when you walk through the airy lobby and look out into the pool area. The rectangular centerpiece pool, designed by Olympic Swimmer and actor Johnny Weissmuller, is surrounded by striped chase lounges and bright umbrellas. You will find yourself being instantly transported to the heyday of Old Hollywood.

The recent renovations has included eight new restaurants and bars, a game room and upgrades to all the rooms. The game room has a two lane bowling alley, shuffleboard and pool tables. They knocked the city within a city concept out of the park.

Need to know

The Lafayette Hotel, Swim Club and Bungalows is truly the place to go if you're seeking a hideout away from the "same old same old". This San Diego boutique hotel is perfect for couples, solo getaways, bachelor/bachelorette parties, etc. It's centrally located to all the great experiences San Diego has to offer but you really won't want to leave this fabulous hotel once you get there.
