Review of Susurros del Corazón, Auberge Resort in Punta Mita, Mexico
Curator’s statement

In February of 2024, I took a trip with my husband to one of the most beautiful properties I have ever stayed at, Susurros del Corazon, an Auberge Resort. Mexico has always been our go-to destination when we need some time to ourselves, and our stay in Punta Mita was our favorite to date. Susurros del Corazon has truly thought of every detail, incorporating parts of the local culture into the smallest moments. I am eager to go back and definitely would recommend to any of my clients for a trip - from a honeymoon to a relaxing family vacation.

Property and Location Overview

One of the newest additions to the Auberge Resorts Collection, Susurros del Corazón is located in Punta de Mita, Mexico. It has already garnered accolades across the industry, including #1 Best New Beach Hotel by Travel + Leisure and named Esquire’s Best New Hotels in North America and Europe in 2023.

Punta Mita is a 1500-acre peninsula with breathtaking views and stunning beaches. The actual town is called Punta de Mita, but we heard both used interchangeably for the area. It's located about 40 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta airport. It is a tranquil surfing town that has drawn in some of the best hotel brands like the Four Seasons, St. Regis, and Auberge.

The resort feels intimate and welcoming from the moment you arrive. There is no check-in desk, but as your driver pulls to the front, you are greeted by smiling staff, including someone to take your luggage. You're served a delicious welcome drink and your Cuate (buddy), who is assigned to you during your entire stay, being just a text away for anything you may need.

Rooms

Susurros offers a nice mix of room types, including studios, suites, casitas and multi-bedroom casas. They are also building out residential villas on-site for those looking to make this property a regular part of their annual holiday. We stayed in a Garden View Studio. The room was incredibly spacious with a King bed, sitting area, closet, soaking tub, and rain shower. The private terrace has a lounger and chairs, so there is ample room for guests to spread out and relax. Every morning, you will find an adorable basket filled with fresh coffee, ceramic mugs, cream and sugar options waiting outside your door. I woke up so excited to open my door and see it there!

Pool

They have three pools in the center of the grounds, offering different options for guests to enjoy. The first pool is adults-only with swim-up access to the bar. The second is family-friendly, and the third is a quiet area meant for reading and relaxing. Each pool is serviced from their restaurant, Acapulco, featuring delicious cocktails and refreshing bites. We had their guacamole almost every day and loved their fresh sushi options.

Beach

Susurros claims to be “nestled between jungle cliffs on a pristine stretch of beach” and although that may seem like a marketing tagline, they aren’t lying. The views of the cliffs surrounding the property and the soft sand of the beach makes you feel like you are in a remote part of the world where everything exists just for you. We even saw humpback whales in the water from our chairs. The hotel feels small and spacious, so you never feel like you have to rush to get a “good spot.”

Restaurants

There are three restaurants onsite, and each offers something unique.

Casa Milpa is the center of their dining experiences, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner. We started our mornings there dining on expertly made chilaquiles, huevos rancheros and pan tostado de aguacuate. For dinner, we ordered the lobster and farro dish, the carne altos plus a few starters. Everything we had was absolutely delicious.

La Boquita is their open-air concept right next door. Their menu features more commonly known dishes with their own spin, including tacos, ceviche and burritos. We loved grabbing a cocktail and watching the sunset from there. Acapulco is their pool-side dining offering that I mentioned earlier.

They also have two additional F&B experiences, including the Mari Tequila tasting room in partnership with Casa Del Sol and Don Surf. They also have a café and a retail shop. We decided to do a private tequila pairing during our stay. It was so fun to learn about the various techniques for creating our favorite spirit and how to pair different foods with it.

Nearby

While you could be self-contained within the resort, the town of Punta de Mita is only 15 minutes away, and is worth a visit. We did two dinners off the property at Mina and La Pescadora. Mina had the best queso fundido we have ever had. We ran out of time, but I heard great things about Sayulita, a small surf town about 20 minutes away with good breakfast and lunch spots.

Need to know

Susurros del Corazón is just one of those properties that could be a great fit for any kind of trip, be it families, honeymoons, weekend getaways, group travel, etc. I would suggest it to couples or groups that are heavily focused on R&R for their vacation, such as a honeymoon, babymoon, or relaxing girls weekend.
