A river cruise on the Seine is a great way to learn about France. I went as a solo traveler. Even as one of the few solo travelers, I felt warmly welcomed by the crew and many of the 70 passengers. The idea of a river cruise for an older clientele was generally true here. However, there were multi-generational families onboard, too. Meeting people on board is easy because the groups are small. There are opportunities to meet people in the lounge, at mealtime, and during the shore excursions.

There are plenty of activities onboard. Alongside the shore excursions, several wellness activities are available to help you stay active and offset the rich food and drinks. While there are no casinos, movie theaters or Broadway-style shows, the value lies in the scenic cruising and the new friendships you’ll form. I still keep in touch with the new friends I made onboard.

I loved that you could choose different shore excursions. I could choose from art, food, hiking, biking and more. The best part is that all the tour guides had great knowledge and insight into each location we visited. I gained a new appreciation for France because I went on a river cruise. Whether you travel solo, like myself or with your friends and family, a river cruise on the Seine is a great way to appreciate France and see it in a new light.

Need to know

I recommend AMAWaterways to my clients looking for a small-group experience. All meals, tours, beverages, wellness activities and shore excursions are included in the cost. People who appreciate the history of World War 2 will appreciate seeing the American (or British and Canadian) cemetery and D-Day landing beaches. Reach out to me and I will get you booked on AMAWaterways.
