Site Inspection: InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort
Curator’s statement

During my 10-day trip around Vietnam in May 2024, I stayed at the InterContinental Danang for two nights. As this is a resort that I often book for my clients, I was thrilled to stay and, as expected, it was my favorite stop on the trip! I relished every moment I got to enjoy the property and I guarantee whoever gets the opportunity to stay will equally love it. It will continue to be my most recommended resort in Vietnam thanks to the attentive staff, stunning views and beach, relaxing spa, spacious suites, mouthwatering food and, of course, the creative Bill Bensley design!

Location

As stated in the name, the InterContinental is located on the Sun Peninsula, a verdant paradise quietly protruding off Danang’s bustling city center.

The drive alone is worth a visit, giving you stunning views back at Danang. You can stop along the way to see the towering 75-meter-tall Lady Buddha at Chùa Linh Ứng, a Buddhist temple. And, unique to the peninsula, be witness to the largest population of red-shanked douc langurs in the world, which are sadly down to only 200 monkeys and dwindling. Incredibly, the InterContinental has a resident zoologist monitoring and protecting the monkeys.

The property is located about 20 minutes to downtown Danang and about an hour from the popular — and incredibly cute — Hoi An, making it a bit of a drive from main attractions. It’s absolutely possible to visit these places during your stay, but The InterContinental Danang is one of those properties where you won’t want to leave once you arrive, so I suggest planning accordingly!

Resort Amenities

You would be hard-pressed to ask for an amenity that the InterContinental doesn’t offer. Here’s a non-comprehensive list of what they do:

  • Swimmable beach

  • Kids' pool

  • Adults-only pool and jacuzzi

  • Water sports including kayaking and stand-up paddle-boarding

  • Tennis courts

  • Yoga and pilates classes

  • Bensley art gallery

  • Full spa

  • Full fitness center

  • Sauna and steam room

  • Three restaurants and two bars

  • Club lounge

My favorite activities were stand-up paddle-boarding, yoga in the beach pavilion and the Blissful Marma massage (which incorporates Mi Sol Spa’s unique technique using tuning fork vibration listening to begin and end the sessions for added relaxation).

Food

There are three restaurants serving a variety of Vietnamese cuisine, French fine dining and casual barbecue.

Citron is the main restaurant serving three meals a day. The breakfast buffet is the best I have ever seen. With a huge sprawl of gourmet food from all around the world, you could live there and not get bored of the food offerings.

La Maison 1888 is their signature French restaurant run by a Michelin-starred chef. Make sure to grab reservations as soon as you can because it fills up quickly. For any special occasion, the chef’s table experience is absolutely worth your time!

If you book a room with Club lounge access, you can also enjoy a la carte breakfast with a small buffet, afternoon tea and cocktail hour in the evening, plus anytime snacks and drinks.

Is the InterContinental Danang suitable for families?

Absolutely! All the rooms are spacious enough for an extra bed and there are multi-bedroom rooms and villas you can book. There’s a kids' pool as well as a kids' club open all day long. For an extra special experience, you can have a little tent set up in your room for a “VIP Explorer Experience.”

Okay... but is the InterContinental Danang suitable for honeymooners?

Also yes! I highly recommend staying in one of the one-bedroom villas where you are completely separated from any other room and have direct access to the beach plus your own infinity pool and outdoor shower. Booking with Fora’s Preferred Partner Perks gives you access to additional resort credit, so hello, room service Champagne!

Need to know

I can’t rave about this property enough — it’s the perfect place for any style of trip. My best recommendation is to stay a few days at the end of a busy trip around Vietnam or book it as a destination all in itself. Whether you are a family, a couple/honeymooners, a group of friends or a solo traveler, the InterContinental Danang has rooms and villas fit for any group size while making you feel like you have the whole resort to yourself. It is a must-visit property and the perfect stop during your next Southeast Asia trip. Reach out so I can help you book the perfect room for your group!
