Luxury Staycation in Downtown Pittsburgh
Curator’s statement

I wanted to celebrate my 27th birthday with a unique experience, and that led me to the Kimpton Hotel Monaco in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! I have never felt more welcomed or celebrated by staff. The interaction with everyone on the property made the day brighter. And the artistic and quirky styling, from the lobby to your room, makes this place even more memorable.

Location

You will be in the heart of Pittsburgh, tucked away among the skyscrapers. You'll only be a crosswalk away from Mellon Park and its beautiful fountains and an endless array of cafes and eateries. This city of bridges is easy to navigate on foot, and the central location of the Kimpton makes it so much sweeter.

Dining

If you want a weekend stay without too much fuss like I did, this place has you covered. You will not be bored staying in and hanging around the hotel. Located on a sunken first floor, off to the left of check-in is the main restaurant. The Commoner serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner! Plus, all of it is available as room service, what's not to love? And if you need some fresh air, the rooftop bar serves Bavarian treats and great drinks (as well as zero-proof options). The outdoor seating looking over the park can be relaxing or entertaining depending on what time of the day you take a trip to the ninth floor.

Your room

This isn't your typical hotel room dressing. The Kimpton is art-deco inspired and you may get the urge to redecorate your home after the trip. Bold colors, fun art and my favorite, the bird cage lamp. Frankly, the room is gorgeous and I didn't want to leave! The beds and pillows are comfy as to be expected, and the bathroom was beautiful.

If you really want to commit to never leaving the room, besides full restaurant room service, they also have amazing staff to assist. We asked for a cup of hot water, they brought us a tea kettle and a full tray of teas and honey. Phone charger in your car that has already been taken by the valet? Don't worry, you can borrow theirs!

And while this last one is for those of you going out, they also boast rental jewelry from Anthropologie.

Need to know

If you're driving into the city, valet your car and explore the surrounding area by foot or taxi. The city's roads are difficult to navigate for newcomers.

The hotel has cashless tip options! If you love the service staff provides, be sure to get their name. You'll have a QR code in your room to leave them a tip.

Let them know what you're celebrating! Checking in after travelling to a birthday card and excited staff can make the day even more special.
