A First Time Cruiser on Disney
Curator’s statement

I come from a family of five kids, all adults now. My mom comes from a family of six kids. As she grew older, she felt that her parents never planned the kinds of trips where all of the siblings could be together. It became difficult for them to remain close as life threw its challenges at them. My mom wants things to be different for her kids, which led to the Disney family reunion cruise. With twelve adults and seven children, there was not one fight, nor one complaint, nor any tears for the entire 7-day cruise.

The cruise started at the Orlando port, Port Canaveral. We all got there about a day early so we could make sure we had everything together before we boarded the ship. For anyone who has not been to Orlando, it is a seriously fun city, especially with Coco Beach being so close. Exploring the beach here, as well as the Ron Jons Surf Shop, was seriously fun before getting on the boat. It also gave us a chance to pick up whatever we forgot (sunglasses, swim diapers, sandals, etc.).

Once aboard the ship, everyone was absolutely amazed.

The attention to detail throughout our entire voyage, blew all of us away. The Ocean View rooms were roomier than I had imagined they would be. They perfectly accommodated my husband, myself as well as our one-year-old daughter in the pack and play, which the ship provided. Another highlight was the room curtain divider and blackout curtains, which sweetened the deal with a cherry on top.

The boat felt like being in a moving Disney castle, with plenty to do for both the children in our party and the adults. The food was on par for a cruise ship, though we had nothing to compare it to as this was our first cruise. The service, however, was impeccable. Not only did they remember our drink orders every night, and they remembered our names and the children's names. They would also greet us around the ship, and do whatever they could for us.

Needless to say, the experience was worth every penny we spent on it.

Need to Know

You must arrive a day or two early, preferably two-three if you have never been to Orlando before.

Don’t over-eat! There is so much food available all day long. And be sure to check out Flo’s café for a late-night snack (no extra cost).

Room service is free! We didn't know anything about the menu until two days into the cruise, and I regret those first two days! Order the BLT, it is amazing (no extra cost!).
