Breathtaking Sunset in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil
Curator’s statement

The Fera Palace Hotel is an iconic landmark located in the Historic Centro District in Salvador. Fully renovated, the hotel windows gleams in pastel sunsets. I took my wife and daughter to enjoy the rooftop lounge and experience the elegant accommodations.

My curiosity got the better of me as I drove through the historic district of Salvador. I saw an elegant historic hotel, the Fera Palace, that has become the centerpiece of restoration and revitalization. With a handsome Art deco style from the 1930s, the Fera Palace hosted many celebrities of that era. I read that my favorite poet Pablo Neruda once stayed there. I heard wonderful things about the rooftop lounge with its dramatic view of the Bay of Salvador. I had to try it for myself.

I made a room reservation using our Fora perks, to experience firsthand what my clients would experience. Since the Fera Palace is one of the top hotels in Brazil, I brought my wife and stepdaughter to enjoy its elegance. In my travel experience, first impressions of the hotel staff set the tone. First off, the valet parking was courteous and professional. Gave our bags to the bell captain, who was bright and energetic. He spoke Portuguese & English as he ushered us to the front desk.

Entering the lobby, it was modern with a classic art deco flare. We were warmly greeted by Paulo at reservations. On a cultural note, I find it interesting how Brazilians will first apologize for their English, then speak it perfectly. He informed me, our room was upgraded to the sixth floor with a view of the bay. I found the room flawlessly appointed with high ceilings, neutral pastel color walls, an impeccable glass, chrome and tile bathroom and tall windows to illuminate a luxurious bed. Sitting on the table, a personalized handwritten welcome card from guest services with gourmet Brazilian chocolates. Fora VIP treatment for sure.

We made our way to the rooftop lounge. In a word...breathtaking.

Honestly, it is a million-dollar view, open, breezy, natural wood, cobalt blue and white pillows, a tiled infinity pool, a lounge with modern Brazilian (their version of neo-soul) music playing on the speakers, just loud enough to hear, yet not to interfere with our conversation. Absolutely perfect Brazilian atmosphere.

I ordered for us a Portuguese bottle of pinot grigio and a few tasty treats, even a cheeseburger. Why a cheeseburger? I consider myself like Johnney Depp in the movie, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, where he sampled pernil in every restaurant in Mexico; for me, sampling cheeseburgers in Brazil is my thing. The burger, by the way, was fantastic. All of this as we toasted traveling well and said (boa noite) to the sun.

My experience at Fera Palace Hotel was excellent. Our Fora perks truly enhanced the luxury service.

Abraços,

Howard

Need to know

One of the best hotels in Salvador! The favorable US dollar and Euro vs Brazilian real exchange rate makes the nightly room rate comparable to New York and DC hotels. I would consider it an affordable luxury for a romantic occasion like an anniversary. If you enjoy learning about the history, the culture and the music of Bahia, there is plenty to see and do nearby. Reach out and let me plan your perfect Brazilian vacation.
