Iceland has long been on my radar for its raw, otherworldly landscapes and unique wellness experiences. But visiting The Retreat Spa at Blue Lagoon was a highlight that surpassed all expectations. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the seamless integration of luxury and nature. There are geothermal waters flowing through lava formations, minimalist architecture design that blends into the rugged surroundings and an atmosphere of complete serenity. This isn’t just a spa. It’s an immersion into Iceland’s healing traditions, elevated to a level of exclusivity that makes it truly special.

The experience begins with a warm welcome and a private suite for changing, setting the tone for the intimate and unhurried nature of the retreat. One of my favorite moments was indulging in The Blue Lagoon Ritual. This is a three-step process using the lagoon’s natural silica, algae and minerals to nourish and revitalize the skin. Unlike the public Blue Lagoon, The Retreat Spa offers access to its own secluded section of the geothermal waters. This makes it feel like a personal oasis — perfect for those who crave privacy and tranquility. I also highly recommend the in-water massage. You float effortlessly as skilled therapists work their magic, a sensation that is both deeply relaxing and completely unique.

For travelers looking for the ultimate luxury spa experience in Iceland, The Retreat Spa is undoubtedly the top choice. It’s best suited for those who appreciate high-end wellness, whether for a solo retreat, a romantic escape or even a restorative stop on an adventurous Iceland itinerary. While I only visited for the day, staying at The Retreat Hotel would undoubtedly take the experience even further. It offers all-day access to the private lagoon and a true immersion in the surroundings. Whether you're drawn by the exclusivity, the natural healing properties or simply the chance to unwind in one of the world's most breathtaking settings, The Retreat Spa delivers an unforgettable experience.

Need to know

Exclusive & private experience: Unlike the main Blue Lagoon, The Retreat Spa offers a secluded and intimate setting. It is perfect for those seeking tranquility and luxury. With access to private geothermal waters, steam caves and relaxation areas, this is a completely different experience from the public lagoon.

The Blue Lagoon Ritual is a must: One of the highlights of my visit was the signature Blue Lagoon Ritual. This is a three-step treatment using the lagoon’s natural silica, algae and minerals to cleanse, hydrate and rejuvenate the skin. This is a signature experience that shouldn’t be missed.

Ideal for wellness & relaxation: The Retreat Spa is best suited for travelers who appreciate high-end wellness experiences. Whether you're on a romantic getaway, a solo self-care journey or a luxury Icelandic adventure, this is the ultimate place to unwind and recharge.

Book well in advance: Due to its exclusivity, access to The Retreat Spa is limited and highly sought-after. I recommend booking at least a few months ahead, especially if you want to secure a prime time slot or an in-water massage.

Enhance the experience by staying at The Retreat Hotel: While I visited for the day, staying at The Retreat Hotel offers even more perks. This includes unlimited spa access and a fully immersive luxury experience. If you have the budget, it’s absolutely worth considering for the ultimate indulgence.
