Site Inspection at Rosewood Castilgion del Bosco
Curator’s statement

Castilgion del Bosco is the first Brunello di Montalcino wine that we truly enjoyed. We visited the winery in 2021 and had the opportunity to taste once-in-a-lifetime vintages. As part of that visit, we also stayed at the Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco resort, where we experienced unparalleled service and the best that Tuscany can offer. We've been back three times and each stay has been equally amazing. I would stay here again and again and recommend it for couples looking for a romantic vacation in Tuscany, families looking for a relaxing getaway and anyone who wants to experience dolce far niente in Tuscany.

Where to stay in Tuscany

Unlock perks by contacting Sara to book your trip.

First and foremost, you need a car to get to Rosewood or you need to arrange transportation in advance. Castiglion del Bosco is approximately 20 minutes from Montalcino and is impossible to reach via public transportation. It is an easy drive from Florence or Rome, though.

No matter which room you book, you are sure to be happy. If you can't be happy here, you can't be happy anywhere. Each suite has its own name and is identified on your key.

Our first stay was in a junior suite that was both romantic and cozy. The junior suite is the base room. We had a small table in our room and chairs on the terrace. This room is perfect for your Tuscany honeymoon. And when we stayed at Castiglion del Bosco in January, they lit candles as part of a turn-down service and left us a bottle of the Rosso di Montalcino.

The bed was so comfortable, and in the winter, what really stands out is the weighted duvet cover. I can’t remember the last time I slept this well.

The junior suite bathroom has a walk-in shower and a separate soaking tub. I love the unique Harlequin tile, a perfect Tuscan aesthetic. Bath products are from Angeli di Firenze, from the famous Santa Maria Novella pharmacy in Florence. The scent is divine, and I love the bath salts. The bathroom has every amenity you could possibly need, including loofahs, toothbrushes, lip balm and a shaving kit. If they don't have it, you don't need it.

Our second stay was in a Borgo Suite. Our corner terrace suite was bigger than our first apartment. We had a separate living room, a huge bedroom, a walk-in closet and a huge terrace. If our junior suite was romantic and perfect for winter, this suite airy and perfect for spring.

The living room was so comfortable and the perfect place to curl up with a glass of wine. Similar to the junior suite, there was a small table in the corner. It opens up to a gorgeous view with French doors leading out to a terrace with loungers.

I loved the bright colors and the four-poster bed in the suite bedroom. We had two chaise lounges in the bedroom that were perfect for reading. Every detail was perfect. The large walk-in closet and full-length mirror offer the perfect dressing area.

Similar to the junior suite, the bathroom had a large walk-in shower and a separate soaker tub. I loved how well-lit it was. One of the benefits of the suites is the bath salts, which contribute to the ultimate relaxation experience.

The best part of this suite was the covered terrace that overlooked the hills of Tuscany. We spent every afternoon out here with a bottle of wine, trying to be present in the moment. The Rosewood encourages a sense of place, and this is exactly that.

Our third stay was in a terrace suite. This is also a corner suite with a lovely living room and plenty of windows that overlook Montalcino. The living room is filled with overstuffed chairs and cozy throws. We had small tables in the living room and the bedroom, which provided plenty of room for both of us to work. The room could be closed off from the living room easily, which made it possible for both of us to take calls at the same time.

I loved the romantic and cozy canopy bed in the bedroom. Similar to the previous suite, we had a large walk-in closet with plenty of space.

The bathroom is what bathroom dreams are made of, with windows that open and a bathtub that overlooks the Tuscan countryside. I loved watching the sunset fade to blue hour from the comfort of the bathtub.

Need to know

Prior to arrival, the Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco team will send you a brochure with all the additional experiences you can book during your stay at the resort. They offer a variety of spa treatments, cooking classes, wine tastings, truffle-hunting experiences and even visits to local producers. If you want to leave the resort, they provide guided tours of Siena, Florence, San Gimignano and more.

There really is something for everyone at the Rosewood. You don't have to book activities that cost extra. Make sure you ask for the schedule of resort experiences while you are there. Many things are included in your stay and don't cost extra.
