Three Nights at Blackberry Farm
Curator’s statement

In February of 2024, I visited Blackberry Farm in Walland, Tennessee, for the first time. The staff took great care of us and even though it was winter, there were abundant activities and lots to do, all with very cozy vibes. I greatly enjoyed my time at Blackberry Farm and would definitely stay here again and recommend it to my clients and friends.

I traveled to Blackberry Farm for three nights in February of 2024, with my mother to celebrate a milestone birthday of hers. We drove there from Georgia, however, many guests choose to fly into Knoxville, where the closest airport is located. The hotel can arrange transportation for guests from the airport in one of their Lexus SUVs. We stayed in a Holly Glade Cottage, which came with a golf cart. These rooms are one half of a spacious cottage, with a porch, large bathroom, sitting area with fireplace, wet bar and a walk-in closet. This room would be perfect for a couple or a girl's trip for two. There are many other room types available- from a larger house to a more standard hotel room, so there are plenty of options to accommodate what is best for your guests. Blackberry Farm frequently hosts special events- everything from food and wine celebrations to wellness weekends- there is definitely something for everyone at this charming and welcoming property.

Having a golf cart is essential at The Farm, unless you really like to walk. If your room does not come with a golf cart, I recommend renting one for your stay. The property is large and exploring it by golf cart is a great way to get acquainted with your surroundings. The farmstead is located across the road from the main house and where you check in.

Blackberry Farm has multiple dining options. For breakfast and lunch, you'll eat at the Dogwood, the more casual of the restaurants. The Dogwood is also available for dinner. All meals are included in your room rate, with alcohol being extra. The Dogwood has an excellent wine list and cocktails, as well as an excellent menu. It has a beautiful view of the rest of the property and the Smoky Mountains. For more formal dining, the Barn is located across the street on the property's farmstead. Dining at the Barn is also included in your room rate and the Barn features an even more extensive wine list and a more formal, but still comfortable, dining experience. The menus at each restaurants changes, so you are not stuck having the same meal the entire time you are at Blackberry Farm. You will definitely not go hungry at Blackberry Farm! In addition to the wonderful restaurants, each room has a complimentary snack drawer and there are snacks available in the clubhouse.

Your visit to Blackberry Farm can be as active or relaxed as you want it to be. We chose something in the middle- choosing to visit the spa, go for a horseback ride, and a farmstead tour. The spa is excellent and has all the treatments you would expect at a high end resort. The pool and exercise facility are also located at the spa. We also went on a horseback ride, the stables are a few miles down the road from the hotel. It was a great ride, the guides were experienced, the horses were great and well-taken care of, and the weather was perfect for a ride through varied terrain. We also did a farmstead tour, which I highly recommend. You can visit the farmstead on your own, but taking the tour gets you a more in-depth experience, complete with getting to visit the Lagotto Romagnolo (truffle dog) kennels and gettin to meet the dogs and a tasting of cheeses, preserves, and other items produced on the farm. If you go in February- March, you'll be there in time to see the farm's sheep give birth to their lambs. In addition to what we did, there are so many other activities you can participate in- guided hikes, fly fishing, bird watching, kids activities, wellness activities, etc. There is something for every type of traveler here. The Farm also has great shopping across several shops on the property, where you can purchase logo gear, home goods, food products made at the farm, spa amenities, and very cute clothing!

One question I had before going was regarding the relationship between Blackberry Farm and Blackberry Mountain. Although they share ownership, the two properties are about 30 minutes away from each other and guests at one can visit the other, but can't participate in activities at the other. If you have time, it is recommended that you book several days at each to get a feel for both! Although we did not visit Blackberry Mountain, it seemed to be focused on wellness and fitness. Blackberry Farm, on the other hand, has these activities but is more focused on a luxurious farm experience with very good food! I would love to visit Blackberry Mountain for a different, but still luxurious mountain getaway.
