Curator’s statement
My family and I had the absolute pleasure of staying at the beautiful Manoir Hovey in North Hatley, Canada. This resort was one of my Gram’s favorite places to go and in her memory, we all made the trip up to see for ourselves! Fun Fact: Quebec is where most of the country’s French speakers live. All the street signs and names of things are in French. Most, if not all, people you’ll encounter also speak English. It was fun to brush up on a little French in preparation for the trip!

Where to stay
Manoir Hovey: This family-owned resort is around 75 minutes from Montreal. You’re immediately drawn to its charm. It feels very welcoming and like you’re stepping into a French film.
I stayed in a Classic Room that overlooked the forest. It gave French countryside vibes. It is quaint and comfortable. It has plenty of space for someone/a couple that is spending more time outside the room. This is located in the main building on the property. Very easy to go downstairs to go to Le Hatley for breakfast and dinner.
My parents stayed in the Heron Suite. This was nestled closer to the main road but surrounded by trees so it felt private. The suite is very modern with upgraded appliances, contemporary bedroom/bathroom. The suite itself has two bedrooms and two bathrooms with a living space and a fireplace. The enclosed porch had a hot tub that overlooked the forest and lake. We spent the chilly evenings there after a day filled with hiking and exploring!
Things to do
Verger familial et Compagnons (French for Family Orchard and Companions): This family owned Orchard is about 20 minutes away in Magog, Canada. They have several varieties of apples that you can pick yourself for a unique experience. The apples are sold based upon their weight. The Honeygold, Gala and Honeycrisp were my family’s favorite picks!
Mont Orford National Park: Located in Orford, Canada, this National Park is perfect for enjoying the sights. Catch a ride on the Gondola to the top of Mount Orford. We went in October when the leaves were starting to turn beautiful shades of yellow, orange and red. The ride up and back down was picturesque. If you’re feeling adventurous, hike up one of the many trails the park has to offer. There are two lakes in the park that also have trails.
Downtown North Hatley: Downtown is such a cute village. You’ll find shops and restaurants lining the street. Whether you’re looking for a souvenir, local goodies or ski gear, you’ll be sure to find it here. There is also a pier located in the downtown area that overlooks Massawippi Lake.
Wine Tasting, mixology and beekeeping: Manoir Hovey hosts all of these on the property and it’s worth adding to your stay! The wine-tasting was offered the week we were there and it was so interesting learning about local wineries. The Sommelier also spent time teaching us about wine tasting.
Where To eat
Restaurant Le Hatley: This elegant restaurant is located in the main building of the resort. If you’re feeling adventurous, the Discovery menu is impeccable. The Chef creates a menu with French and Canadian inspiration. I was so impressed with the Sommelier’s choices for us. The staff are all very knowledgeable and attentive. Whether you’re dining for breakfast or dinner, it’s a meal and experience you won’t forget!
Le Tap Room Bistro: The Bistro is also located on the property of Manoir Hovey. With a cabin-like feel, this place is more casual. The seasonal menu has plenty of options – several that are more adventurous. Pro Tip: Find out what the butcher’s cut of the day is.
Massawippi Mercantile: This cafe is nestled in the town of North Hatley. The menu ranges from bakery items to daily specials like a lobster roll (YUM). Sit outside for gorgeous scenery while you dine.
Bistro de I’Auberge la chocolatiere: Don’t walk, run to this cute bistro with dozens of different chocolates. You’ll be amazed at all of the unique flavors. There are other local goodies and souvenirs to look at also. We picked up some honey from here!
Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, family vacation or spontaneous trip... Manoir Hovey in North Hatley is the perfect landing spot!
