Milos, Greece: Boating and Beach Paradise
Curator’s statement

Milos, a volcanic island in the Cyclades, is a hidden gem that offers breathtaking landscapes, crystal-clear waters and a unique blend of natural beauty and rich history. From the moment I arrived by ferry from Crete, I was captivated by the island's charm. This island has some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen! Highly recommend visiting!

Where to Stay:

The Milos Breeze Hotel is a perfect base for your Milos adventure. With gorgeous pools, stunning views and a great vibe, this hotel offers a luxurious experience. Upgrade to a room with a private jacuzzi on the balcony for an extra touch of indulgence.

Exploring Plaka:

Plaka, the island's capital, is a charming town with narrow streets lined with shops and tavernas. Head to Verina Cocktail & Food Bar for a refreshing Aperol Spritz to go and snag a prime spot to watch the sunset near the church around 6:30pm. Another place to watch is called Utopia Cafe, very cute vibe but apparently fills up quickly! Afterward, savor the famous salad and delicious orzo lamb baked dish at Avli-Milos, where the friendly staff, like Diego, will make you feel right at home. There was a long line to get in to this restaurant so I recommend going straight over during or just after the sunset to beat the crowd.

Pollinia:

One night, we ventured down for dinner walking only six mins from Milos Breeze hotel to Pollonia. It is a very cute town and has many restaurants. We stumbled upon a very cute boutique called Vanilla Gold with only Greek designers. Dinner at Enalion Restaurant was delicious! We didn’t have a reso but got lucky — I’d recommend one as it was packed. We had seafood gnocchi and seafood spaghetti, it was so good, I highly recommend. Cute gelato shops for baklava and gelato after.

Boat tour highlight:

A must-do in Milos is the "Round of Milos and Poliegos All-Inclusive Snorkeling and Cruise" with POLCO SAILING. This 9-10 hour semi-private cruise takes you to the island's most stunning spots, including Kleftiko, Gerakas and the famous Blue Waters in Poliegos. Snorkel in crystal-clear waters, try stand-up paddling and enjoy a delicious lunch on board. I am happy to send you the details about this boat trip, the swim spots we went to were a major highlight and they take go pro camera pictures of you so you have cool diving pictures after! The skippers were really nice!

Beach hopping by ATV:

Rent an ATV and explore Milos' stunning beaches at your own pace. Highlights include the lunar-like Sarakiniko Beach, the picturesque Firopotamos with its charming church and the handicap-accessible Plathiena Beach with its sparkling teal waters. Don't miss a stop at Medusa for a delicious meal with a view. There was a 40 min wait (no reservations) so plan accordingly. We had sundried octopus and eel as well as fried calamari, Greek salad and an Aperol Spritz! It is heaven!

Getting around:

While taxis are available via WhatsApp, renting an ATV is the best way to explore the island's hidden gems. Alternatively, you can rent a car, but the ATV offers a more adventurous and flexible experience.

Other recs we didn’t get to were Bakalikon Galanis Μπακάλικον Γαλάνης, Astakas Cafe Restaurant Άστακας Café Restaurant, O! Hamos! Tavern and Yialos Restaurant Milos Γιαλός.

Milos is a true gem in the Aegean Sea, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, rich history and authentic Greek hospitality. With its stunning landscapes, delicious cuisine and endless opportunities for adventure, this volcanic island is a must-visit destination for any traveler seeking an unforgettable Greek island experience.
