Roatan, Honduras
One of my favorite warm places to travel to in March is Roatan, a beautiful Honduran island that boasts warm weather all year round. March is specifically a great time to go because the humidity is not as bad as other times of the year. This island is surrounded by the second-largest reef in the world, which offers a wide range of water sports activities. For those who prefer to relax, there are many spas and beaches to enjoy, too.
The best place to stay on the island is West Bay, a long stretch of sandy beaches where the water is smooth and calm. You can observe an amazing variety of marine life by simply swimming 15 feet out. Along the beach, you'll find some fantastic local restaurants, as well as the booming local town of West End, which is just a short water taxi ride away.
Thailand
Thailand in March is especially wonderful for multiple reasons. Firstly, the weather is generally pleasant with warm temperatures and minimal rainfall, making it perfect for exploring the country's stunning beaches, vibrant cities and lush landscapes.
Additionally, March is the start of Thailand's festival season, offering visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich cultural traditions and celebrations that take place throughout the country. From the colorful Songkran water festival to the mesmerizing Phi Ta Khon ghost festival, there is no shortage of unique experiences to be had. Lastly, March is considered a shoulder season, meaning fewer crowds and more affordable prices. This allows travelers to make the most of their trip without breaking the bank. A few places I recommend are Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi or Chiang Mai.
Portugal
March is a wonderful time to explore the beauty of Portugal. The temperatures stay within the 60-degree range (Fahrenheit), which is most ideal. From the vibrant city of Lisbon to the charming city of Porto, there is so much to see and do. Don't forget to include the stunning Azores in your itinerary, where you can immerse yourself in the breathtaking landscapes and enjoy the tranquility of the islands.
When you are in Lisbon, I highly recommend going to the Javá restaurant rooftop at sunset to see views of the city and enjoy great Mediterranean food. And make sure to do the Treasures of Lisboa food tour– it was the highlight of my trip!
New Zealand
March is an ideal time to visit New Zealand for several reasons. The weather during this month is generally pleasant and mild, making it perfect for outdoor activities and exploring the stunning landscapes that the country has to offer. The temperatures are comfortable, ranging from around 60 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit, allowing you to enjoy various outdoor adventures without being too hot or cold.
Additionally, it's also a great time to witness the autumn foliage in New Zealand. The landscapes transform into a breathtaking display of vibrant colors, with the leaves turning shades of red, orange and gold. This creates a picturesque backdrop for hiking, road trips or simply enjoying a leisurely stroll through the scenic countryside.
A few places I would highlight are Queenstown, Christchurch and Abel Tasman National Park.
Curaçao
With its stunning beaches, rich history, diverse cuisine and friendly locals, Curaçao truly is a great place to visit. Like most Caribbean islands, the weather is amazing year-round, which makes it a perfect warm place to travel to in March. Whether you're seeking relaxation, adventure or cultural immersion, this Caribbean gem has something for everyone.
Beyond its natural beauty, Curaçao is rich in culture and history. The island's capital, Willemstad, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is renowned for its colorful Dutch colonial architecture. Strolling through the streets of Willemstad feels like stepping back in time, with its charming pastel-colored buildings and picturesque waterfront.
Need to know
If you are reading this in search of honeymoon inspiration, I am newly obsessed with Curaçao. It's a far more low-key destination with European charm and colorful architecture in the Willemstad city square. If you enjoy more off-the-beaten-path destinations, I highly recommend this location and would be happy to help you book your dream honeymoon!
