Passalacqua
Passalacqua is an amazing property that was my personal favorite. It is a 20-minute drive to the town of Como. It is the new kid on the lake, having just opened almost a year ago. It was an old villa turned into a hotel and the decor, landscape and finishing touches make this hotel feel like it is out of a movie.
There are 24 rooms, two restaurants, a tennis court, spa, pool, boating dock, library and outdoor cinema. Passalacqua is only available to guests staying at the property, making it extremely exclusive.
Upon entering the property, you are greeted with open arms and the staff encourages you to treat the property and grounds like it is your own. This property is very family friendly! They have three room categories (Palazz, Villa and Casa al Lago). The Palazz is where their entry-level rooms are located, just behind the main Villa. Casa al Lago is located in their front garden, with front-row views of Lake Como.
Il Sereno
Located across the lake on the other side of Passalacqua is Il Sereno. Il Sereno is a much more modern hotel with the rooms positioned right on the lake. Each room has a direct view of the lake with a balcony to relax on and enjoy. The views are absolutely stunning. Should you be looking for privacy, a honeymoon location or a quick getaway, this is a great option. The hotel has a Michelin-Starred restaurant that is a must! They also have a spa, fitness center, pool and three boats that you can rent and take out on the lake.
Villa D'Este
Villa D'Esta is one of the oldest hotels on Lake Como, celebrating their 150th season this year! There are two buildings (Cardinal Building and the Queen's Pavilion), which are both unique and decorated in the traditional Renaissance style.
The Cardinal Building is the main building, with 125 rooms, and the Queen's Pavilion has 27 rooms located just next door. If you are looking to be in a quieter part of property, the Queen's Pavilion would be best to request when booking. There are six restaurants, eight tennis courts, a garden, a sports club (squash, Turkish bath and indoor pool), an outdoor pool and a gym.
