Location

Located 25 miles north of San Diego International Airport, Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas is positioned at the north side of beautiful Encinitas, a beautiful escape from the nearby city. Many resort rooms overlook the ocean, providing unobstructed view to pink sunsets and vibrant rainbows. The resort capitalizes on this location with experiences including beachside yoga and surf lessons. Grab a complimentary e-bike to get lunch in town or a quick car ride to San Diego to explore the famous zoo, indulgent Mexican cuisine and superb shopping.

Amenities

Alila has everything and more. The Spa is a cornerstone of the property with services ranging from classic nail services to energy healing. Mindy, my facialist, provided the best spa experience of my life. Complimentary experiences including fitness classes and cocktails offer touch points to connect with your travel buddies. I indulged in nightly hot tub soaks to get my blood flowing in refreshing February weather. To top it all off this four star hotel offers impeccable service--the concierge, dining staff and valet were sure to ensure that every amenity (e-bike rentals, complimentary Encinitas shuttle services, fitness classes) was enjoyed. Even the maintenance team, including my new pal Marty, went above and beyond, making sure to check in on my visit and even grab me a complimentary coffee before my morning yoga flow.

Dining

The Hyatt team has you covered from a quick iced coffee to a multi-course surf and turf dinner. The Coffee Bar is open for breakfast and lunch. Vaga, the star restaurant is open for breakfast lunch and dinner. Room service and mini bar offerings ensure you are satisfied from morning to night.

Local recommendations

Downtown Encinitas is a seven-minute drive from the resort, grab an e-bike or a complimentary ride from the valet to check it out. Dana, the lovely yoga instructor and Encinitas lifelong local, recommends Soltera Wine, La Papa Gayo, Nectarina, Good Onia and Union Kitchen. We checked out Trattoria I Trulli and it was the best pasta I've ever had--and that's saying something after many trips to Italy and living in Manhattan. Although it's tempting to stay on site the whole weekend, you must indulge in their handmade pasta with local seafood. Bon appetit!

Need to know

Alila Marea is perfect for the adult traveler looking to relax with their other half--even if that other half is your inner self. Celebrate your babymoon, bachelorette or mini-honeymoon in a mindful environment guaranteed to leave you more relaxed than you came. Happy to share my insider tips from my visit!
