Best Aperitivos in Milan
Curator’s statement

Aperitivo time is the best time! For those who maybe don't know about this staple in Italian culture, an aperitivo is a pre-dinner drink and snack, usually between 5 and 7 p.m., but, more importantly, what it really is is a social occasion. It's the time to meet friends and catch up over an Aperol Spitz, the perfect setting for a laid-back date, a time to relax and let go after work, or simply an excuse to leave the house on a lazy day. It is my all-time favorite thing to do in Italy because aperitivo time is when the city really becomes alive, every restaurant and bar is full, people are happy and energetic to be finished with work or school and simply want to have a fun time, and of course cocktails and charcuterie boards can make anyone's frown turn upside down! So, here are the best places in Milan to get an aperitivo!

1. Associazione Salumi e Vini Naturali (ASVN) – Brera

This is my absolute favorite place for an aperitivo! The cozy indoor space hosts only a few tables and an impressive wine bar, while the outdoor garden in the back has the romantic atmosphere of the old city. With twinkling lights above, historic ruins and climbing plants surround the tables creating a low-lit and sophisticated ambiance. The menu is simply perfect: choose between the best cured meats and cheeses Italy has to offer as well as some traditional Milanese dishes such as saffron risotto and cotoletta Milanese, not to mention the impressive wine selection.

2. Portrait hotel – Centro Storico

This new luxury hotel in the heart of the Centro Storico is host to a selection of bars and restaurants. For an aperitivo, choose between their indoor mixology bar Rumore with live music events, inspired by the elegance of old Milan, or their restaurant and bar with indoor and outdoor seating, which looks out into their beautiful and spacious courtyard.

3. N’Ombra de Vin – Brera

One of the most characteristic bars in Milan and known to be one of the best wine bars in the city. The restaurant is inside a large wine cellar dating back to the 15th century giving the place a rustic yet elevated vibe. This is definitely one of the coolest and most popular spots in the city and is always full, you'll often find groups of people standing outside the restaurant sipping their wine and cocktails because this is simply the place to be! Make sure to reserve a table in advance to secure your spot!

4. Ceresio 7 – Isola

This trendy rooftop bar is one of the best known spots in the city! With two pools and a 360-degree view of Milan, the restaurant offers a seasonal menu and a fresh cocktail list. The luxurious indoor and outdoor space is perfect for an elevated aperitivo all year round.

5. Casa Iberica - Multiple locations

For a more laid back and energetic vibe, head to one of the many locations of Casa Iberica. Serving Spanish tapas and sangria, this place is a great spot to meet with friends while sharing some delicious Iberico ham, croquetas, patatas bravas and much more. Each location is similarly decorated with wicker strewn hanging lamps creating a low-lit ambiance, a well-stocked bar, and an impressive centerpiece of prosciutto hanging like a chandelier! Make sure to book in advance as the place is always full.

6. Il Bar at the Rinascente- Centro Storico

Situated in the heart of the Centro Storico, the rooftop of the famous department store has one of the best views of the Duomo in the whole city. The bar offers a classic food and drinks menu, so enjoy some cured meats and an aperol spritz while looking directly at the Madonnina!

Need to know

The best tip I can give you to have the best aperitivo experience is to book your table in advance because every place is bound to fill up quickly any day of the week.
