Location
Goldwynn is located approximately twenty minutes from Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau. It is located on beautiful Cable Beach near several other resorts and hotels. It is about a mile from the Baha Mar campus and is located next to Goodman’s bay, a public park frequented by both locals and tourists. Watersports such as jet skis and tubing are easily accessible a short walk down the beach.
Goldwynn is only a ten-minute taxi ride from Arawak Cay, a street full of fantastic local restaurants, which is also known as the Fish Fry (my favorites are Oh Andros and Goldie’s!), and fifteen-minutes from downtown Nassau.
The Property
This 81-room property opened in the spring of 2023 and is unlike any other hotel in the Bahamas. It is a true beachfront hotel and many of its rooms provide direct ocean views. The other side of the hotel faces a golf course. It is architecturally unique with a curved design that provides enhanced ocean views. There is a large infinity pool and an expansive pool deck with ample loungers as well as cabanas (which are available for an additional charge, approximately $350 per day). Loungers and umbrellas can be placed on the beach wherever guests desire, and drink service is provided on both the beach and pool deck.
Kayaks, paddle boards and snorkeling equipment are provided for use by Goldwynn’s guests. The hotel provides a roped-off swimming area which is large enough to kayak within, and lifeguards vigilantly patrol the area. Beneath the surface of the water, sea turtles, fish and other sea creatures can be easily spotted in the shallow sea grass beds.
Inside the hotel there is a clothing/jewelry boutique, a sundry shop and a well-equipped gym, and a spa.
The Room
Our ocean front studio was clean, spacious, and well appointed with modern furniture and decor. The highlight of the suite was the balcony overlooking the ocean; we could see sea turtles swimming right in front of the hotel while we enjoyed cocktails and watched the sunset. All of the lighting and blinds in the room can be fully controlled by a set of switches next to the bed. The bathroom featured a large shower and dual sinks, but no tub. Each room at Goldwynn is equipped with a kitchenette, which includes an electric cooktop, microwave, refrigerator, as well as pots, pans, tableware and utensils. Given the high food prices in Nassau, this is an amazing benefit. The room also included a Lavazza pod-system coffee maker and the pods were replenished daily.
Dining
Oia is Goldwynn’s primary dining outlet, serving mostly Mediterranean and Asian cuisine. The menu is seafood heavy and features sushi, steak and fusion dishes, such as Alaskan king crab fried rice. The ube cheesecake is a must-try. It is a high-end restaurant and priced accordingly. Oia also serves breakfast, including American staples such as eggs Benedict and pancakes in addition to Caribbean fare such as boiled fish and Johnny cakes. In-room dining is available.
Lunch is served on the pool deck at Amara, which offers sushi, burgers/sandwiches, and quick bites (the guacamole is excellent!).
There are two bars on the property, Amara and Bar Paul inside Oia. The bartenders served up tasty cocktails and were happy to improvise. Fair warning, the cocktails are small and pricey.
Atria is a lobby bar which serves coffee, smoothies and light pastries for breakfast. Live pianists performed in the evenings which provided a lovely ambiance.
Goldwynn has relationships with several other restaurants in Nassau which provide perks to its guests, including free transportation to and from Latitudes restaurant in downtown Nassau.
Safety
We felt safe at all times on Goldwynn’s property and in the vicinity, including walking along Cable Beach. Security at the hotel closely monitors the comings and goings of guests.
Need to know
Taxis to downtown Nassau cost about $20 each way. There is parking on the hotel property for guest rental cars.
Room service is provided from 7:00 am until 2:00 am.
Baha Mar, which has many restaurants and a large casino open to the public, is about a twenty-minute walk along the beach from Goldwynn, but I would recommend taking a taxi at night (about $15 each way).
The infinity pool at Goldwynn is heated, which makes swimming in the evenings so enjoyable.
