All good things are found at the end of a dirt road, and that couldn’t be truer at ULUM Moab. Upon arrival, we were greeted by breathtaking views of the Looking Glass Arch and its stunning swooping sails. Check-in began with a refreshing, non-alcoholic invigorating tea, and we were shown a board displaying the day's complimentary activities and schedule. After a brief tour of the common area, we loaded our bags into a golf cart and were whisked away to our suite.
The suite: your private tent
The suites are truly remarkable, each featuring a cozy private porch perfect for star-gazing under the dark sky. Inside, you'll find a king-size bed dressed in luxurious Parachute linens, complemented by beautiful Native-inspired Pendleton wool blankets and a plush down comforter. Bedding is a personal luxury for me, and ULUM did not disappoint. The heated mattress pads made it hard to get out of bed on those cold October mornings.
Each suite includes Aesop bath products for your soothing heated rainfall shower, and a specialty Turkish cotton bathrobe awaits you. Our son was with us, and the staff kindly prepared the sleeper sofa with the same luxurious linens. The bathroom, located at the back of each tent, features a custom rolling door for privacy, along with a hot-water shower, sink and stand-alone toilet. Each suite is equipped with an oscillating evaporative cooler and a wood-burning stove, essential for the unpredictable desert climate. At nearly 400 square feet, the suite felt wonderfully spacious, complete with electricity, lamps, rechargeable carry lamps and a hairdryer. WiFi was complimentary and performed well both in our tent and at the lodge.
On-site complimentary activities
During our stay, we took full advantage of ULUM's offerings. We enjoyed a guided yoga session, a nighttime sound bath, all three dipping pools, jewelry-making and tea blending. Two of our three nights featured live music, and we indulged in nightly s'mores that included Kit Kat bars and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. The staff also made rounds each evening to assist with sunset photos, including those of the Looking Glass. Each morning, before setting off on our adventures, we stopped by the make-your-own trail mix bar to prepare our to-go snacks!
Curated dining & coffee bar
The coffee, smoothie and snack bar is not only visually stunning but also offers some of the best culinary delights I’ve encountered. With a variety of grab-and-go snacks, the in-house baristas truly excel. My husband and I enjoyed multiple daily "Thelma and Louisa" drinks, and our evening versions may have been topped off with different liquors each night.
The lodge's restaurant opens at 7 am, bustling with guests eager to start their adventures. Serving breakfast, light afternoon snacks and dinner, the food is surprisingly exceptional given the remote location. Their curated menus showcase fresh, seasonal and wholesome ingredients, fueling you for a day of exploration.
Need to know
For families traveling with multiple guests, the common area features two standalone bathrooms, each equipped with a full three-piece setup for changing and showering if additional facilities are needed. There's also an extra bathroom in the lodge, located off the main dining area, with multiple toilets for convenience.
Be sure to bring a reusable water bottle! The lodge offers a filling station, along with a hydration station at the front where you can find hydration sticks and mixes to help you stay hydrated in the high desert.
I highly recommend wearing hiking boots or shoes that can handle some dirt, as the area can get quite dusty. The pathways between your suite and the lodge can be steep, so be prepared for a good workout trekking back and forth to the lodge. Please note that this property may not be suitable for individuals with accessibility challenges.
