Madrid and Beyond: 4 days of Exploration
Curator’s statement

My husband and I decided to travel over Thanksgiving last year to Madrid. The city, Spain's bustling capital, offers a blend of historic charm and contemporary vibrancy. Known for its world-class museums, lively plazas and diverse culinary scene, Madrid wants travelers to immerse themselves in its rich culture and dynamic atmosphere.

Day 1:

We ventured south to Toledo in our rental car, a UNESCO World Heritage site just an hour from Madrid. Amid its narrow cobblestone streets, we delved into its rich history and culture. We soaked in the town's charm before returning to Madrid for a delightful dinner.

Day 2:

We toured the Santiago Bernabeu soccer stadium. We then strolled through the upscale Salamanca neighborhood's Golden Mile, renowned for its high-end shopping and luxurious living. In the evening, we were captivated by an authentic Flamenco show.

Day 3:

We spent our morning in the tranquility of El Retiro Park, observing rowers on its beautiful lake. We then witnessed the regal Changing of the Guard at the Royal Palace before embarking on a unique Tuk Tuk tour, exploring Madrid's main sites a little differently. Our day culminated in the festive ambiance of Plaza Mayor, where preparations for Christmas were underway, and Puerta de Sol's annual Christmas tree lighting drew crowds into the evening.

Day 4:

For a change of pace, we rented a car and ventured outside Madrid for a hike in the scenic surroundings of Navacerrada, a charming ski town. After a rejuvenating stroll and a coffee stop, we bid farewell to the countryside and returned to Madrid.

Need to know

I recommend walking around the different neighborhoods. Get away from the crowds and experience the city from the local perspective.
