Site Inspection Moxy Downtown Charleston
Curator’s statement

February 2025 I visited Moxy, Downtown Charleston when I was in town. I had reserved the hotel for a group booking later in February and wanted to stop by to meet the sales manager and see the hotel while I was in town. While I was there, I toured the property, learned about their room options, including accessible room options for guests. The welcoming environment upon entering the reception made me wish I was staying there!

Where to stay

Moxy Charleston downtown is a great option for couples or groups who are looking for a moderately priced, fun place to stay. While the hotel is not located right in the center of Charleston, it is located close enough to walk (around 15 minutes) or Uber (4 minutes). There is a Starbucks on the ground floor, a full bar with small bites and a grab-and-go snack bar for guests. The hotel has a small meeting room as well as a larger meeting room that can accommodate up to 30 guests, and the room can be arranged as the guests want it.

I loved the decoration of the rooms and the cleanliness of the spaces. I was also amazed at the amount of accessibility features the hotel had. The manager was able to show me two different accessible rooms but informed me that they offer hearing accessible rooms, accessible tub rooms and roll-in shower rooms. Some of these rooms are strategically placed near the elevator.

Another thing I really liked was that the artwork in the rooms can be taken. They are made like peel-away images and you can take what you like home with you as a souvenir.

The best part of this hotel is how it can be so easily curated for groups. They offer quad-queen bunk rooms, which can sleep up to 8 people. Double-queen rooms, which can sleep up to 4 and corner king rooms. Each room has ample storage with pegs on the walls to use for hanging things and a fold-up desk with a seat that doubles as a suitcase holder. Each bedroom has their own steamer.

The hotel features a modern gym with views of the Ravenal Bridge. A rooftop terrace on the same floor as the reception where guests can play ping-pong, enjoy a fire or lounge or just check out the view.

The hotel offers a welcome drink token for guests when they check in, valet parking and has stash closets on each floor. These stash closets have all the necessities, extra towels, irons, toothpaste and toothbrushes as well as tampons.

Need to know

I would recommend Moxy Downtown Charleston for groups or couples who are looking for a moderately priced hotel that is not directly in the city center but not far.
