About Watch Hill, Rhode Island
Watch Hill is very close to the Connecticut border (Stonington, Mystic), a 30-minute drive from Narragansett/Block Island's port, and a 40-minute drive from Newport.
It's not a high-profile area—Watch Hill residents move here for their privacy—but that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of things to do for couples and families.
Fun Fact: Taylor Swift's mansion in Watch Hill happens to be a few doors down from Ocean House.
Takeaways
There's a lot here, so if you have any additional questions, ping me and I'll help you out
In addition to 49 guest rooms, there are 18 condo-style signature suites and 5 off-site cottages ranging from two-bedroom bungalows to sprawling 6,000-square-foot estates—all OH rooms and properties have access to OH beach and amenities.
Must-See Signature Suites: Morgan Suite (sleeps 6 adults/6 children) is a sailor's dream with stunning interior woodwork, two levels of oceanfront views, and direct/discrete access to the beach without needing to walk through the lobby; Lighthouse Suite is the getaway for the traveler with downtown style who wants the beach views.
Even in standard rooms, there is no bad view. If you see rooms that are labeled "partial water view," it's more generous than you think. The Sales Manager said that she will personally ensure that guests stay in the best room within their tier, given availability.
Pay attention wine lovers and foodies—Ocean House has its own Center for Wine and Culinary Arts! In addition to offering complimentary tastings for guests, they can also customize experiences for couples, groups, corporate team-building activities, etc.
The OH! Spa is the only Forbes Five-Star spa in Rhode Island, and among only 56 spas in the world to achieve the Five-Star rating. They recently switched to a product line that has all organic-derived ingredients.
Watch Hill's beach is one of the most beautiful in the state, so there's no outdoor pool. However, there is an indoor pool at the OH! Spa. Personally, I would vote for enjoying the full-service beach cabanas.
The restaurant by the beach, Dune Cottage, offers light fare during the day and turns into Théa, a Greek/Mediterranean restaurant, at night. (The beach is also available to book for weddings at Ocean House!).
Book a daytime cruise or a sunset cruise on the Dandy, OH's yacht ⛵
The hotel has great relationships in the Watch Hill community and neighboring Stonington to secure any golf course access, yacht charters, private flights, fishing/clamming licenses, etc.
As an example of a custom transportation experience, OH will assist with arranging water taxis between Watch Hill, Block Island, Newport, Jamestown, etc. in partnership with local contacts.
For sportspeople, croquet, squash, and biking are on-premises.
OH also hosts a number of interesting events throughout the year! Example: Veuve Clicquot Gondola Village experience.
For travelers based in New York City, there's an Amtrak station 5 minutes away in Westerly and pickup can be arranged.
