Site Inspection at Dreams Riviera Maya in Cancun, Mexico
Curator’s statement

In November 2023, my family and I stayed at the Dreams Riviera Maya in Cancun, Mexico and I was able to do a full site inspection. The facility is very family-friendly and we had a great experience. We were able to utilize the VIP services such as private check-in, VIP buffet and extra amenities, such as a liquor bottle to take home.

Location

the Dreams Riviera Maya Cancun resort is located in Puerto Morelos, a town on the Riviera Maya in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. It takes about 20 to 30 minutes from the Cancun airport to get to the resort. I strongly suggest arranging your airport transfer prior to your trip, as local taxis can be more expensive! We got a local taxi at the airport for four people, round trip, for about $160 total.

Room Categories

There are many room categories on that property. One of the main difference is wether they are regular rooms versus club level rooms and suites. All rooms, regardless of their type, include a private furnished balcony or terrace (with outdoor jacuzzi hot tub!), 24 hour room service and concierge, daily mini bar, wi-fi and a TV screen.

We stayed in two different rooms: A premium Delixe garden & Tropical View, which was approximately 450 sq. ft and came with both an indoor jacuzzi and outdoor jacuzzi, as well as walk-in shower and private restroom. We later upgraded to the Premium Deluxe with Plunge Pool. The room was slightly larger but came with the same amenities as our previous room!

Beach and Pool

The resort has three main pools: An infinity pool overlooking the beach, with a swim up bar; a second pool great for activities such as volley ball, etc.; and a kids pool with an awesome splash and slide structure. They have two private beaches: one open to all guests and one reserved for preferred guests. Both sides of those beaches have a private bar, as well as beach chairs and umbrellas.

Restaurants

With over 10 restaurants, bars and snack places, there is always a place to satisfy a craving! We tried almost all the restaurant (except the french restaurant Bordeaux, as it was reserved for adults only) and were very impressed with the quality of the food and the service. There was options for kids at all restaurants, including high chairs and kids games. We used the coco cafe for coffee in the morning, snacks through the day and ice cream at night and loved the conveniency. We also used the pool barefoot grill for lunch time around the pool!

Activities

When it comes to activities, this resort had TONS of things to do! The daily schedule started at 9 a.m. and went to 5 p.m. with staff-lead activities every hour. In addition to those, the facility has many beach games set up.

For Families and Kids

The main reason why we picked this resort was because it was advertised as extremely family friendly - and I can confirm that it was! The resort has many activities for the kids (Arcade Room, Euro-bungee, Beach volleyball, Bocce ball and billiard, Climbing pyramid, Ping-pong, Table games and an awesome kids pool with slides). We also tried out the kids clubs, which was very easily accessible and had a wide range of hours available for the kids. The kids club start for kids three years and older. They also have an indoor infant room available with a ball pit, and many infant toys, where parents can bring their infant and play with them directly.

Spa

With our membership upgrade, we had access to one complimentary Hydrotherapy Session. The Hydrotherapy session have to be booked in advance by calling the spa, and they last a total of 60 minutes. The session was a circuit of five minutes (in pairs/couple) at each hydro station. We started with steam room, sauna, then bubble bath, many different jets, a jacuzzi with cucumbers on our eyes, and finished with a cold plunge! Although that is the only treatment we tried, the spa has many treatment rooms and treatment options for all type of self-care wanted.

Weddings

Although we were at the resort on a family vacation, we witness a lot of weddings during our stay. I talked with an employee who mentioned they average around 500 weddings a year! They have many different wedding sites (entrance staircase, two sites on the beach, two sites around the pool, a private rooftop and a private garden) but we often were walking right into the groups as they had multiple weddings happening on different days and times.

Need to know

I would absolutely recommend the Dreams Riviera Maya for any family with young children. The facility is very geared towards family, from the kids club, activity schedule, food corner or overall amenities like the kids pool slides, bungy trampoline, arcade room or the outdoor theatre.
