Royal Victoria Hotel Varenna is a historic and elegant luxury hotel located in the picturesqsue town of Varenna, on the eastern shore of Lake Como. Originally established in the 19th century, this hotel combines classic charm with modern comfort, offering guests a refined retreat with breathtaking views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. Its prime location and rich history make it a standout choice for those seeking a sophisticated escape on Lake Como. Royal Victoria is now part of the R Collection Hotels group, which owns Grand Hotel Victoria Menaggio and manages Villa Cipressi, too. They own some other hotels in Lombardia and some in Valle d’Aosta region. This year, 2024, they also started managing the Menaggio lido, which is a private beach not far from GHV. It is now named Victoria Beach.

Overview

Location

Google Maps - The Royal Victoria Hotel is situated in the heart of Varenna, offering easy access to the town’s quaint streets, local shops, and restaurants. Its central location provides convenient access to ferry services, allowing guests to explore other parts of Lake Como and nearby attractions. If you decide to reach Varenna by ferry, the hotel has its own electric mini van, which could come get you at the ferry dock and bring you, your group and luggage directly to the hotel. The electric mini-van’s name is Il Grifo.

Royal Victoria Varenna is located right next to Villa Cipressi, with the beautiful gardens just a short stroll away.

50 rooms and suites.

I did not have the chance to visit any room, because the hotel was at full occupancy when I did my site inspection.

Hotels layout

The 50 rooms and suites are spread across the historic main building and a more recent wing, blending classic design with contemporary amenities. The hotel features extensive gardens, a lakeside terrace and a private dock, providing guests with ample opportunities to enjoy the stunning lake views and serene surroundings.

Food

Visteria: hotel Royal Victoria introduces its newest fine-dining restaurant, VISTERIA. A standout feature of the property, the restaurant is now open to both locals and hotel guests. VISTERIA offers a menu of Mediterranean and authentic cuisine that will delight diners' palates, all while they enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Como. The restaurant's sophisticated and elegant ambiance creates the perfect setting for an immersive dining experience, where regional classics are reimagined with a modern twist.

Victoria Grill: a cozy blend of tradition and modernity, this spot overlooks the charming central square of Varenna. Open during the winter months as well, it offers quick, delicious and carefully prepared dishes, including pizzas made with passion and quality ingredients.

Bars: the hotel offers three distinct bars for guests to enjoy their leisure time to the fullest.

Bar Visteria is ideal for those seeking a personalized mixology experience. This elegant yet informal bar serves excellent cocktails crafted by the skilled barman, all while guests are surrounded by the magical views of Lake Como.

The Garden bar is designed for a special aperitif experience, making every moment memorable.

The Veranda bar is nestled in the enchanting botanical garden of Villa Cipressi, providing a unique setting to appreciate the wonders of Lake Como.
