A Relaxing Family Cruise On Celebrity Ascent
Curator’s statement

In March of 2024, my husband, five-year old and parents all spent a week on the brand new Celebrity Ascent. From the fantastic food to the attentive and kind staff to the modern decor and tropical destinations, it was an unforgettable trip for our multigenerational group! We loved it so much, we are booked again for November, and I am counting down the days.

Celebrity isn’t one of the cruise lines known for children’s activities, but after a few other cruises on more stereotypically child-friendly lines, we were looking for something a bit more relaxed. And we found it! There may not have been waterslides or splash pads, but our kiddo had a blast in the main pool with us before begging to be dropped off at the attentive kids' club. She was there two to three times per day and always came back to the cabin happy and with new crafts. While she was happily entertained, my husband and I lounged in the solarium reading or napping.

We also greatly enjoyed the activities. From bingo to a blackjack tournament to the theater shows, we were NEVER bored. The kiddo accompanied us to non-casino events — when we could pry her from the kids' club — and enjoyed them with us, even though they weren’t particularly created for kids. We spent a luxurious time in the spa one morning, and most evenings you could find all of us hanging out at the martini bar watching the talented bartenders juggle and put on a show as they made delicious cocktails!

The staff was fantastic. Our cabin steward was attentive and friendly. I was beyond impressed with the food! The buffet and main dining were above average compared to other recent cruises, and of course the specialty restaurants were all amazing. Our lunch at Le Grande Bistro was probably my most memorable meal. In the buffet, the manager greeted us every morning and made sure my gluten-free kiddo had found something she could eat.

We had a concierge infinite balcony cabin. We enjoyed this new type of balcony that created more space in the room as well as fantastic views. I loved sitting there and watching as we arrived and left port. We visited Tortola, St. Kitt’s and San Juan. We snorkeled in St. Kitt’s, which was very enjoyable, but to be honest, the main goal of this trip was to relax! And so we did.

It was the most relaxing trip I’ve had in a long time. My only complaint was that they kicked me off the ship after seven days! If you are looking for a relaxing and upscale cruise, with or without kiddos, I would enthusiastically recommend Celebrity.

Need to know

I would recommend Celebrity (specifically the Edge ships) for those who are interested in an elevated cruise experience, foodies or travelers who are interested in a cruise but are wary of it feeling crowded or like too much of a “party atmosphere.” It was neither boring nor too intense. It was perfect!
