Curator’s statement
I visited Maui the month before the horrible fires of 2023. I really fell in love with the people and the island and now that tourism is back, they truly deserve to have us visit their amazing island. The views from the Montage Kapalua Bay are second to none and the attentive service from the staff is beyond compare. The spa is also one of the best I've been to in my life!

If you want a truly exclusive five-star experience then book at the Montage Kapalua Bay and you will be blown away by the level of service and incredible views from the pool and beach walking trails. The spa at the Montage is incredible and you can spend all day in their pool or enjoying the steam, sauna and whirlpools! If you're looking to save a little bit of money but not sacrifice in amenities then the Sheraton Maui is the place for you. The side of the island where these hotels are located is lush and you won't be far from Lahaina Town which is a quick 10-20 minute ride.
As soon as you book your trip, the next thing on your list is to make reservations at Mama's Fish House. The top of the every "best food in Maui" list is going to mention Mama's and it is for good reason! The food, service, and overall ambience here is incredible. It is on the pricier side but it will be one of the best meals of your life! Reservations are hard to come by, so book early. Some other tested and highly recommended places I ate were:
Paia Fish Market - No matter which location you go to, the fish is always fresh and a cheaper lunch option!
808 Grindz - The best breakfast on the island, hands down! Get there early or expect to wait for a table inside.
Road to Hana
Everyone knows that Maui is well known for the Road to Hana and the waterfalls and hikes along the way are truly something you should take time to enjoy. Go at your own pace! There are so many trails that are easy quick hikes, or there's some tougher long ones depending on how much time you want to dedicate to one or two hikes or hit as many as possible. If you want to check out the black sand beaches at Waianapanapa Park you must make a reservation. Schedule your day around that and I can help with an itinerary. My other favorite hikes/waterfalls were the Pipiwai Trail, Wailua Falls, and Pua'a Ka'a Falls.
Need to know
Maui was hit incredibly hard by the fires with entire homes and businesses being wiped out. They depended on tourism to sustain and many places have not and will not reopen. Some of the favorites on prior "must-do" lists do not exist anymore and experiences at other places may be different. Be kind and considerate to a community rebuilding from the ashes.
