Beach Bliss in Avila Beach

Just a short drive from downtown SLO, Avila Beach is a must-visit. The crescent-shaped sandy beach is perfect for relaxing, swimming, or taking a stroll along the waterfront boardwalk. Grab fish tacos from one of the casual eateries and watch a stunning sunset. Don't miss exploring the cute boutiques and galleries in the compact downtown area. For a unique experience, check out the Avila Valley Barn - part farmers market, part artisan shops and eateries. For delicious food, hit up Spoon Trade in Grover Beach or Splash Cafe in Pismo Beach for award-winning clam chowder in a sourdough garlic buttery bread bowl. YUM!

Quirky Attractions

San Luis Obispo has its share of quirky, only-in-SLO attractions. Don't miss a stroll down Bubblegum Alley, where the walls are coated in a kaleidoscope of chewed gum. The iconic Madonna Inn is a kitchy, pink-hued hotel that's a throwback to the 1950s. Grab a movie at the last Sunset Drive-In Movie Theater in California. And the gorgeous Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa dates back to 1772. Don’t miss the Thursday night Downtown SLO Farmers Market tradition that has been going on for over 40 years. This is an open-air market held every Thursday evening, with local farm stands, street food & live music. Get corn on the cob or ribs!

Downtown Delights

Downtown SLO is a vibrant hub of shops, restaurants, and entertainment. Wander the tree-lined streets popping into boutiques, grab a cocktail at Granda and make a reservation for delicious steak at Ox & Anchor. Firestone Grill is an institution, famous for their tri-tip sandwiches and spiced fries.

Sandwich Supremacy

With an amazing array of delis and sandwich shops, SLO may just be the sandwich capital of the world. High Street Deli has a cult-like local following for their outrageous creations. Kona’s Sandwich is another tasty spot. But the sandwiches are just the start of the incredible food scene here.

Caffeinated Highlights

For your caffeine fix, swing by local favorites like Nautical Bean or Kreuzberg Coffee Company downtown. The owners of Nautical Bean are super friendly, so tell Brett I say hi!

Outdoor Pursuits

Hiking Bishop's Peak is a rite of passage, with stunning vistas from the summit. For an extra challenge, pick up a burrito from Los Mismos Tacos de Acapulco and carry it on the hike, enjoy it at the top. You'll have earned those calories! Other outdoor highlights include wine tasting at spots like Center of Effort Winery or Sextant Winery. Or get hands-on by making your own whiskey at Rod & Hammer's SLO Stills.

With its gorgeous scenery, incredible food, and laid back vibe, San Luis Obispo makes for an unforgettable getaway. Start planning your Central Coast escape!
