The best US Virgin Island resorts on St. Thomas, St. John & St. Croix

Read on for three of the best US Virgin Islands resorts.

    1. Bolongo Bay Beach Resort: a casual resort on St. Thomas with a lax vibe and plenty to do

Set amongst a scenic, semi-private bay along St. Thomas’ southern coast, Bolongo Bay Beach Resort is a low-key choice offering bohemian vibes and all-inclusive amenities. It’s not quite as luxurious as our next two choices, but it’s a great spot to enjoy island life.

The best rooms offer immediate beach access, while travelers who reserve rooms on the second or third floors can still enjoy stunning ocean views. It's one of the more affordable resorts in the area, and there are only 65 rooms, so the resort maintains a degree of intimacy that both couples and small families can enjoy.

The all-inclusive plan at this US Virgin Islands resort includes all meals, unlimited alcohol (excluding some top-shelf varieties) and a full array of watersports gear, like paddleboards, kayaks and even small sailboats.

    2. Lovango Resort + Beach Club, St. John: one of the most luxurious US Virgin Islands resorts

Prefer a ritzier Caribbean vacation? Lovango Resort + Beach Club is located on Lovango Cay, a tiny private island just off the coast of St. John. This US Virgin Islands resort is only accessible by a short ferry ride from St. John or St. Thomas, lending it an exclusive vibe.

There’s also just a bit more to do here compared to our previous choice (although it is worth mentioning that Lovango Resort is not an all-inclusive). Here, you’ll find picturesque beaches, hiking trails, boutiques and a delectable variety of dining options. Accommodations range from gorgeous island villas to small cottages and open-air “rooms” that accentuate island living while still embracing the lavish comforts you might expect from a top-tier resort.

(P.S. Wondering what to do on the island, like exploring Virgin Islands National Park? See our 5-day St. John itinerary for ideas.)

    3. The Buccaneer Beach & Golf Resort, St. Croix: an upscale & leisurely Virgin Islands hotel

If you like the idea of staying at a traditional hotel like Bolongo Bay Beach Resort but prefer the upscale vibe and service of Lovango Bay, The Buccaneer may be your happy medium.

This US Virgin Islands resort has an elevated island theme that, admittedly, is a little dated compared to some of the newer resorts you’ll find sprinkled throughout the Caribbean (see our guide to some of our favorite Grand Cayman resorts for examples). However, The Buccaneer is still a high-end resort offering exemplary service, amenities and accommodations.

Like our prior resorts, The Buccaneer offers immediate beach access — and everything that comes with it — but it also hosts a reputable golf course, tennis courts and a full spa.
