What’s special about The Oberoi, Marrakech?
The Oberoi Group is renowned for its exceptional luxury hotels and sharp eye for detail. The Oberoi, Marrakech opened in 2019 and is no exception to the group's reputation. The Marrakech location was in development for more than a decade, and includes jaw-dropping architecture and features, such as the 787-foot-long grand canal through the grounds with incredible views of the Atlas Mountains in the background. The design was inspired by traditional Moroccan architecture.
From the hotel’s romantic setting to its unique history, The Oberoi is just as much of an experience as the city it resides in.
“The Oberoi was exquisite,” said Fora Advisor Alexandra Shea after a scouting visit, “The main building is modeled after Medersa Ben Youssef (one of Marrakech's most famous historic monuments), built in the 14th century. It exudes elegance…Walking through the groves of trees to get to your room grants you an extra level of serenity and grounding that is hard to find elsewhere.”

The property was built from scratch and the architecture is handcrafted (seriously)
Incredibly, the entire hotel was built from scratch over the course of a decade, with local artisans providing all the intricate details by hand. The result rivals even the most prestigious landmarks in Marrakech proper (check out things to visit in Marrakech, if you’re curious). Hand-cut Moroccan tiles make up the details throughout the space.
It’s set on a Moroccan olive grove, and the Atlas Mountains provide the backdrop
The Oberoi is surrounded by manicured citrus and olive tree groves, a remnant from the property’s past life as a farm. Lush flower beds, ornate furnishings and romantic fountains add to the hotel’s allure, which is further enhanced by the majestic backdrop of the Atlas Mountains.
The Oberoi, Marrakech has a keen eye for details
The Oberoi’s design isn’t the only thing that receives the star treatment. Hospitality is brought to new heights here. For instance, the hotel will request information like your pillow preference, slipper size and other personal details before your stay to make sure you’re exceedingly comfortable upon your arrival. No detail is too small, and you can expect nothing short of world-class service at this hotel.

We’ve included a quick round-up of the different room levels below, but you can chat with your Fora Advisor for personalized advice on which space is best for you.
Deluxe Rooms & Royal Suites
Even the standard rooms at The Oberoi wow. At about 750 square feet, they’re incredibly spacious for entry-level options. The decor is classy, but not in a way that betrays the hotel’s setting: local influences reign supreme here.
The real draw of the Deluxe Rooms is their sizable private terrace. To say the view is stunning is an understatement — it’s extraordinary. Marvel at the peaks of the Atlas Mountains beyond the resort grounds.
If you’re traveling with a larger group, these rooms can also be set-up to all be adjoining, creating a penthouse vibe with sweeping views of the Atlas Mountains.
Deluxe & Presidential Villas with a private plunge pool
Deluxe Villas offer a similar setup as the Deluxe Rooms, except they also feature a private courtyard complete with a private plunge pool and charming garden space.
“Going for a dip under the full moon right from your room — it may be the best combination of respite and luxury,” Alexandra said.
Presidential Villas are one level higher than standard villas. Each boasts significantly more space, along with a bevy of additional amenities like a dedicated pantry, optional butler service, a heated plunge pool and an ensuite bathroom.
Royal Suite with a private plunge pool
The Royal Suites are more than twice the size of the Deluxe Rooms and feature an elevated view of the mountains from the expanded living space, which is also outfitted with a grand fireplace. The bedroom is notably larger, with a separate vanity area and ensuite, marble-floor bathroom. The attached private terrace is upgraded with a heated pool and a premier view of The Oberoi’s Grand Canal.
Guests staying in Royal Suites also have the benefit of round-trip transfers from Marrakech Menara Airport, where they’ll also receive Fast Track access. Plus, the Royal Suites feature all of the aforementioned amenities. Plus, if you’re traveling with a family, the suites can connect to a Deluxe Room.
Dining at The Oberoi, Marrakech
The Oberoi, Marrakech has four primary dining options. These restaurants collectively offer a diverse range of culinary experiences, from authentic Moroccan and Indian cuisines (the Oberoi Group is originally from India) to other international dishes.
Rivayat: Michelin-Starred Indian cuisine
At Rivayat, guests enjoy fine Indian cuisine in a formal setting curated by Michelin-Starred chef Rohit Ghai. You have the option to dine indoors or in an outdoor area inspired by the Medersa Ben Youssef, a gorgeous example of Moorish architecture and a one-time bastion of academia in Morocco.
If you’re in a tasting-menu mood, opt for the culinary Expedition, a five-course set menu complete with palette-stimulating amuse bouche and ample sides like dal, steamed rice and a selection of pillowy breads. There’s also a vegetarian version available. If prix fixe isn’t your thing, the à la carte menu is just as impressive. Choose from a beautiful array of starters — like lentil dumplings with cooling yogurt, prawns served with coconut and peanuts, crispy potato cake with tamarind and mint chutney — before moving on to the mouthwatering mains and dishes prepared in the tandoor grill. The tandoori salmon, paired with cooling raita and pickles, and the chickpea biryani, crowned with mushrooms and goji berries, are a couple highlights.
Tamimt: Moroccan-Mediterranean with an international flair
Tamimt offers a heightened take on Moroccan-Mediterranean cuisine. It combines the traditions and ingredients of Amazigh, Arab and Jewish cultures. All the ingredients are sourced locally — and much of the produce is cultivated onsite — and if you choose indoor seating, you can see the chefs at work. There’s also a refined lounge area if you’re in the mood for an aperitif or cocktail after dinner.
There’s a sharing-style set menu consisting of four courses, in addition to a robust à la carte selection, which is influenced by the aforementioned cultures and the freshness of the Mediterranean. A Moroccan-inspired main might be a fragrant seafood tagine, brimming with fennel, pepper, saffron potatoes and olives. A Mediterranean entrée might skew Italian, for instance, as with a vibrant vegetable pasta with zucchini and mint.
Azur & Vue: light & healthy meals and cocktails with views of the Atlas Mountains
Azur features a lighter, healthier menu and a mix of covered and poolside terrace seating. The exact menu changes with the season, but mostly centers on international cuisine. Appetizers might include something like roasted eggplant with curried yogurt and pomegranate seeds, or avocado hummus with preserved lemon and pistachio. For something a bit more substantial, choose from pastas, sandwiches, fish and meat among the “plats principaux.”
Meanwhile, Vue boasts an eclectic menu of snacks, desserts and cocktails. Savor a fine glass of Champagne and a scoop of argan oil ice cream while taking in the mountain backdrop. The property’s verdant gardens and raging fireplace contribute to an especially intimate vibe at night.
