Punta Mita and Riviera Nayarit resorts
Many of the best resorts in the broader Puerto Vallarta area are actually in Punta Mita or Riviera Nayarit, both of which lie to the north. Read on for six of our favorite options, from luxe beachfront properties to semi-secluded retreats surrounded by rainforest.
Susurros del Corazón, Auberge Resorts Collection
Susurros del Corazón — an Auberge Resorts Collection property and Fora Reserve partner — is a luxurious beachfront resort that blends contemporary elegance with the natural beauty of Mexico's central Pacific coast. The resort has a tranquil, intimate atmosphere, and offers spacious villas and suites with ocean views and private plunge pools.
“The property has a small enough footprint to feel like a boutique hotel,” Fora Advisor Jennifer Rustigian said.
Susurros del Corazón excels at wellness. It has a dreamy spa, yoga classes and wellness programs designed to help you relax and rejuvenate amid the property’s gorgeous setting on a serene, secluded beach And locally inspired dining options and thoughtful design reflect the rich culture and laid-back vibe of the region — all enough to earn the resort two Michelin Keys.
Fora Advisor Ronit Margolis added that the property has a private beach and no neighboring resorts. The spot is perfect for travelers to take in the sunset while sipping Raicilla, which she noted is a sibling spirit to mezcal and tequila, and only produced in this part of Mexico.

Unlike Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, Naviva offers a unique and intimate stay in tented, but luxe accommodations set in lush jungle surroundings.
“Naviva is a perfect fit for those who love Four Seasons service but want something more secluded and nature-oriented,” Ronit said.
Each tent — which comes with plunge pools and expansive terraces — is spacious and thoughtfully furnished. Plus, there are only 15 tents on the property and a maximum occupancy of 30 people, ensuring privacy and Four Seasons’ personalized service.
Beyond accommodations, enjoy bespoke wellness treatments, stargazing sessions and guided hikes through the nearby forests.
Fora Advisor Jennifer Rustigian recommends the temazcal spa treatment. The experience is led by a resident shaman and reconnects you with nature through herb-infused steam in a traditional sweat lodge.

Sofia said her kids especially loved the personalized smoothie station. She also recommended getting a reservation at Codex, the resort’s signature restaurant, prior to traveling because it fills up so fast.
There are many kid-friendly activities and programs, as well as adult-oriented wellness offerings like spa treatments and beachfront yoga. The Conrad also provides access to the nearby Litibú Golf Course.

Each room and suite has bohemian touches, like surfboards and unique murals, along with either ocean or jungle views.
“The design of this hotel is fun and quirky while still being polished and high-end,” Sofia said.
The nightlife here is more upbeat compared to many of the more relaxation-focused resorts near Puerto Vallarta. But the days are nonetheless spent enjoying some well-deserved downtome. Lounge by the beachfront pool, take advantage of the full-service spa or try your hand at paddle boarding or kayaking.
Fora Perks at W Punta de Mita:

Puerto Vallarta resort and related travel FAQs
Read on for answers to common questions about Puerto Vallarta resorts and hotels.
Which part of the greater Puerto Vallarta area is best to stay in: Puerto Vallarta proper, Punta Mita or Riviera Nayarit?
Our insider’s guide to Puerto Vallarta and Punta Mita offers a more comprehensive take, but it essentially depends on what you’re looking for. Virtually all the Fora Advisors we asked recommended visiting Punta Mita or Riviera Nayarit over Puerto Vallarta itself if you prefer to stay at an upscale resort.
“Punta Mita is perfect for those seeking exclusivity, relaxation and excellent water-sports opportunities,” Fora Advisor Ronit Margolis said.
However, Fora Advisor Sofia Foyo pointed out that the hotels in Punta Mita are nearly an hour from Puerto Vallarta, so they’re not the best choice for travelers who want to mix in urban sightseeing or exploring local culture. (Fun beach towns like Sayullita also give you a taste of both, however.)
What’s the best month to visit Puerto Vallarta?
This is a subject where the Fora Advisors we polled had varying opinions. A few advisors noted that if you’re largely staying at your resort, Puerto Vallarta is a year-round destination. High-end resorts can accommodate higher summer temperatures and the rainy season, which lasts from June to October. (It’s worth adding that most rainstorms only last a few minutes.)
Otherwise, November through May is the high season. Crowds spike in December and January, when the weather is at its driest and temperatures are still mostly comfortable (this also happens to be peak whale-watching season). November and March through May tend to offer a balance between crowds, weather, pricing and availability.
Are all beaches in Puerto Vallarta swimmable?
Most beaches in the area are swimmable, especially those around the major Puerto Vallarta resorts. A few beaches, especially those further away from the Bay of Banderas or more secluded spots like Boca de Tomatlán or Playa Mismaloya, may at times have stronger currents or rougher waves. A Fora Advisor can offer more details.
What’s the best way to travel between resorts in Puerto Vallarta, Punta Mita and Riviera Nayarit?
The best way to travel between resorts in Puerto Vallarta, Punta Mita and Riviera Nayarit is by car. All three areas are well connected by scenic coastal highways. Renting a car offers the most flexibility and convenience. But if you prefer not to drive, private transfers or car services arranged by your Fora Advisor are a hassle-free and comfortable option.
Is Puerto Vallarta or Cabo better?
Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas both rank among Mexico’s top five destinations. They’re similar in many ways. Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos (the greater Cabo San Lucas area) are both home to luxe resorts and gorgeous settings.
Cabo has wider name recognition, making it a slightly busier destination. But Puerto Vallarta’s beaches are mostly swimmable (unlike Cabo’s). A Fora Advisor can offer a more comprehensive comparison.
