Montage Los Cabos sits at the tip of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula. A fresh contemporary aesthetic blends with the natural beauty of Cabo San Lucas. All the while, guests enjoy world-class amenities, ocean views and top-tier service.

“The Montage Los Cabos was one of my favorite hotels in Cabo!” Fora Advisor Taylor Votaw said. “[From its] incredible swimmable beach and private cove, to the refreshing paletas [fruit popsicles], waterfront sushi bar and warm staff, the Montage makes you feel like you're on your own private island.”

Another plus, Taylor added, is the hotel’s private cove in Santa Maria Bay, a tropical playground for swimming, boating, diving and snorkeling.

It’s no surprise Montage Los Cabos is one of Fora’s most-booked properties in Cabo San Lucas. Below, we break down everything to know about the property — the room options, onsite dining, things to do and the complimentary VIP perks you unlock when you book your stay with a Fora Advisor. Our overview is intended to show you what’s out there and get you thinking about what you’re after. What sets Montage Los Cabos apart

A trip to Cabo San Lucas — and by extension, the greater Los Cabos area — takes travelers to one of Mexico’s most famous destinations. Relaxing beach resorts, dramatic landscapes and a lively nightlife make Cabo an excellent destination for anyone seeking relaxation and adventure.

Montage Los Cabos is set on Santa Maria Bay, a relatively secluded location with one of Cabo’s few swimmable beaches. (Only a handful of Cabo hotels offer direct access to beaches that are safe for swimming. Most Cabo beaches experience rough surf all year.) The setting, combined with the resort's lavish amenities and uncompromising service, makes the Montage in Cabo a standout choice.

“The Montage Los Cabos is serene and upscale, catering to those seeking a blend of relaxation and luxury,” Fora Advisor Amy Shamus said. She touted the hotel’s views, service and range of activities, adding, “I cannot wait to personally go back.”

Accommodations at the Montage in Cabo

At the Montage in Cabo, you can choose between standard rooms or suites at the main building, individual residences or larger “casas.” For help deciding which room (or house) best fits your travel needs, chat with a Fora Advisor. They can give you a rundown of all your options and matchmake you to a choice that aligns with your style and budget.

    Rooms & suites

Even Montage Los Cabos’ entry-level rooms are well appointed. There are options with desert or ocean views, a pool, a balcony or terrace, and either one king or two queen beds. Deluxe rooms offer enhanced views.

The Montage’s suites — about twice as large as the regular rooms — come with one, two or three bedrooms. Every suite features separate sleeping and living areas. The two- and three-bedroom options are ideal for small groups or families. Notably, each second and third bedroom includes two queen beds — no one has to sleep on a pullout couch or cot. All suites come with the same options as the standard rooms; however, some suites offer a private pool and hot tub along with a notably larger patio.

    Rentable residences & Casas

Fora Advisor Caroline Weilert had a solid recommendation for travelers seeking a home away from home.

“For a real treat, consider the residences that boast full kitchens, panoramic ocean views, laundry and spacious accommodations. And, the kicker for families of five: They have a few residences with three 'real' beds in the second room.”

Translation: No sofa beds or rollaway for the third kid.

Each residence is located far enough from the main building for blissful privacy while not being so far away as to be inconvenient. The largest options can comfortably sleep up to 12 guests, but there are also choices for couples’ getaways and small groups who simply prefer a more exclusive stay.

If you want even more space and exclusivity, consider one of Montage Los Cabos’ three Casas. Casa Twin Dolphin has three bedrooms, while the larger Casa Cardon and Santa Maria Casa both have five. Each property has spacious courtyards and gardens, infinity pools, outdoor fireplaces and complimentary butler service. On the inside, expect chic tropical décor and open design plans that capitalize on each home’s stunning natural surroundings (think pristine views, lots of natural light and privacy).

Dining at the Montage in Cabo

The dining options at Montage Los Cabos are exactly what you would expect from one of the area’s most prestigious resorts.

“Montage Los Cabos’ restaurants and marketplace offer exclusive culinary opportunities, [mostly] focusing on modern yet traditional, Baja-inspired dishes,” explained Fora Advisor Taylor Votaw

When you book your stay with a Fora Advisor, you can put your daily breakfast credit and separate resort credit toward meals, drinks and tastings.

If you want to explore beyond the resort, Taylor’s guide to luxury Cabo trips offers a ton of great restaurant recommendations.

    Restaurants & bars

The Montage in Cabo hosts four restaurants and a fun marketplace.

Mezcal represents Mexican cuisine at its best. The restaurant features a diverse menu that explores different aspects of Mexican culinary culture with a contemporary twist. The vibe is sophisticated, and there’s also a tasting menu of local tequilas and mezcals. Marea is an al fresco seafood restaurant that blends Mediterranean and Baja flavors.

Talay takes guests to the other side of the Pacific, featuring a Thai-inspired menu and an atmosphere that’s a little more casual than the aforementioned choices. Then the Montage’s Sushi Bar offers fresh sushi and sashimi, much of which is sourced locally.

Finally, Paletas doubles as an all-day café and boutique, serving artisan sandwiches, pastries, gelato and paletas — popsicles made from fresh fruit.

    In-room dining

Anyone staying in standard rooms or suites can order 24-hour room service. The expansive menu changes throughout the day, and offers a mix of Mexican and American favorites (like Baja fish tacos, cheeseburgers, the catch of the day…).

Experiences & amenities at the Montage in Cabo

It’s very hard to be bored at Montage Los Cabos. With a full-service spa, tons of excursion opportunities and other resort features, there’s something for everyone here.

Compass Sports (Montage Los Cabos’ adventurous partner)

The adventurous traveler will be very happy at the Montage in Cabo. The property has a dedicated team — Compass Sports — that facilitates exciting activities beyond its grounds. These include diving with mini submersibles, off-roading on UTVs, sailing voyages, hiking to hidden waterfalls, among other seasonal offerings.

Alternatively, you can always ask your Fora Advisor to plan and arrange on- or off-site experiences. For example, Fora Advisor Allison Holmes provides excellent recommendations in her guide to hiking in Cabo San Lucas.

“Hiking in Cabo San Lucas can be a breathtaking experience,” Allison writes. The trails “allow you to visit hidden waterfalls, experience the rugged landscape not accessible by car and ascend to panoramic viewpoints that allow you to experience the natural beauty of Cabo in a way that goes far beyond the confines of your resort.”

    On-site recreation & golf

Montage Los Cabos also offers a mix of leisurely and adventurous activities within its grounds, plus convenient access to Twin Dolphin Club, one of the area’s top golf courses.

On the property, there are water sports like surfing, kayaking, sport fishing, boating, snorkeling and scuba diving. If you prefer to stay on land, consider tennis or pickleball.

    Beach & pools

Cabanas, palms and loungers line either side of a gorgeous pool

Image courtesy of Montage Los Cabos

It’s worth highlighting again that Montage Los Cabos’ private beach is one of the area’s few swimmable beaches. Guests can reserve beach beds with views of the Santa Maria Bay. Alternatively, there are three main pools at the Montage, all of which are surrounded by rentable cabañas. Many rooms, suites and larger accommodations (like those sprawling Casas) have private pools, too.

    Family amenities

Montage Los Cabos doesn’t sell itself as a family resort — it’s really for travelers of all types — but it does have excellent family amenities. For one, there’s Paintbox, a children’s club offering all sorts of fun activities for kids ages five to 12. These include exploring local tide pools, arts and crafts, games and more. Meals are provided and there are options for all-day, morning, afternoon, weekends or nighttime sessions. Babysitting for younger children is also available. The resort even has UPPAbaby strollers available for rent.

    Spa

In a destination known for ritzy, pampering resorts, the Montage in Cabo stands out. Mexican tradition inspires both the spa’s design and its treatments. Notably, if you book your stay with a Fora Advisor, you can put your complimentary resort credit toward spa treatments like the Mezcal Renewal Massage, which incorporates locally sourced herbs, Montage’s signature body oil and a mezcal tasting.

    Montage Los Cabos FAQs

Below, we’ve gathered answers to a few of the most common questions about the Montage in Cabo.

Are there any must-do experiences in Cabo San Lucas?

It depends on your interests. But whale-watching is always a highlight, one you don’t even have to leave the resort to witness.

“During Whale Watching season — November through March — (you can) sip on a margarita on your balcony, on the pool deck or even the sand and watch a show of beautiful mammals swim and jump right before your eyes,” Fora Advisor Amy Shamus said.

Several whale species all travel along the Baja California coast during their annual migrations north. The whales hug the shoreline to avoid predators, which makes them visible from Cabo’s beaches, including the private beach at Montage Los Cabos.

“Travelers arrive from all over the world for the guaranteed sight of these majestic creatures during their migration through the waters around the Baja Peninsula,” writes Fora Advisor Mani Boatright in her guide to whale watching in Los Cabos. “Along with the humpback whales, you can spot blue whales, gray whales and even orcas.”

What’s the best way to get to the property? How far is Montage Los Cabos from the center of Cabo San Lucas?

Image courtesy of Montage Los Cabos

The average daily rate for Fora bookings made between January and July 2024 was $1,944. This includes the room rate, taxes and fees. It’s worth noting that Cabo’s peak travel season runs from December to April.
