Pendry Washington DC - The Wharf
The Pendry was a favorite among visiting Fora Advisors and remains one of our top-booked hotels in DC. This luxe retreat is set within DC’s vibrant waterfront district. The Pendry has a sophisticated design that blends contemporary elegance with subtle nods to the capital's history.
“The Pendry is my number-one hotel pick for Cherry Blossom Season in DC, and high on my list for any time of year,” Fora Advisor Jen Perrone said.
Jen added that the best cherry blossom areas are a 20-minute walk away, with a lively mix of restaurants, shops and major venues — most notably, The Anthem, one of DC’s top concert halls. Nearby, water taxis will take you to various points along the waterfront in Georgetown and Alexandria.
The hotel’s Japanese-inspired rooftop pool and bar, Moonraker, are standout features that our advisor team adored. The bar has a chic vibe, with panoramic views of the skyline and Potomac River.
“Moonraker is the perfect spot to begin or end your evening,” Fora Advisor Alana Stoyas — who also labeled the Pendry as her top DC hotel — said.
She recommended the bar’s espresso martini to complement brunch or aperitivo hour, adding that Moonraker regularly hosts special evening events, including stargazing sessions by telescope, live saxophone performances and tarot card readings.
“Booking a room with a partial- or full-river view to enjoy the gorgeous sunsets over the river is a must!” Alana added.

The guest rooms and suites are thoughtfully designed with floor-to-ceiling windows, offering city views and plenty of natural light. The Riggs, a Fora Reserve partner, is housed in a former bank building from the late 1800s, with grand design elements integrated into contemporary spaces. The bank’s original safe deposit boxes now serve as in-room safes.
The hotel’s First Lady Suites were a favorite among the Fora scouting team; each suite is inspired by the lives and personalities of America’s past First Ladies. Additionally, the hotel’s café and bars are destinations in their own right.
“Silver Lyan — in the former bank's vault — and Dishonesty Bar are two of my favorite places to catch up with friends in a luxurious but private setting,” Fora Advisor and DC local Liz Laird said.

But the interior design leans trendy and contemporary. The hotel, a Fora Reserve partner, has a creative spirit, and showcases local artwork in community-focused spaces with custom furnishings. Similarly, each guest room is thoughtfully curated with modern touches like local art and chic décor.

History aside, the hotel offers views of the Potomac from its waterfront location and is just minutes from attractions like the Lincoln Memorial and Kennedy Center. The hotel’s guest rooms and suites are spacious, with updated design elements to bring new life — and reputation — to the Fora Reserve partner property.

How many nights should you reserve to fully experience Washington, DC?
Five nights give you enough time to check out many of the best museums in Washington, DC, plus neighborhoods like Chinatown, Georgetown and Logan’s Circle. That said, a condensed trip is totally doable— especially if you’re only interested in one or two museums.
What are the best months to stay in Washington, DC?
Spring and fall months are arguably the best for DC trips. The former coincides with the National Cherry Blossom Festival (typically between late March and early April), and the weather is usually mild. Fall also brings comfortable temperatures, along with fewer crowds and autumnal oranges and reds. Summer — DC’s peak travel season — and winter can be fun, but are more prone to extreme weather (hot and humid or blizzards, respectively). If you’re exclusively visiting DC for its indoor museums, winter may make the most sense: Crowds are few and far between, and even the best hotels in the city offer more approachable rates.
Is it better to stay in or outside of Washington, DC?
It depends. If budget is a factor, there are affordable options both in and outside of DC. However, Northern Virginia (a.k.a. NoVA) and some parts of southern Maryland are very affluent, with hotels that match the upscale vibe. If you want convenient access to DC’s best attractions, staying outside the city may be unwise. Traffic to and from the city can be a nightmare to navigate, and you’ll save a lot of time, frustration and money by staying in DC. The opposite can also be true. If you’re visiting DC to catch a Commanders game, for example, staying in Maryland may make more sense.
What’s the best part of DC to stay in?
The neighborhoods making up Downtown DC (including the National Mall), Capitol Hill, Georgetown and The Wharf are the best areas to stay in DC. These areas are where you’ll find the best hotels and attractions.
Is DC walkable? Can you get around without a car?
Washington, DC is one of America’s most walkable cities. DC also suffers from some of the country’s most congested traffic. Not only can you navigate DC without a car, we recommend it. DC’s neighborhoods are very pedestrian-friendly, and the metro system conveniently connects all of them.
Is it safe to walk around downtown Washington, DC at night?
Downtown DC and the busier parts of the city are usually very safe at night. But it’s always wise to exercise caution in new places.
How far in advance should you book Washington, DC hotels?
We recommend booking Washington, DC hotels at least three to four months in advance. This will give you a wider selection of rooms and properties, plus the best rates. Last-minute bookings should be possible, too — even during peak travel seasons — but you may have limited choices.
Is Washington, DC an expensive destination?
Washington, DC caters to many budgets, from family-friendly outings to luxury-seeking urban sojourns. The best hotels in DC lean toward the latter, but hotels with approachable rates are abundant.
