You may have heard of The Ranch Malibu, a luxury wellness retreat / bootcamp in California that delivers some impressive results (both physical and mental). And this month, The Ranch is bringing its results-oriented luxury to the east coast, right between Tuxedo Park and Sloatsburg, New York.

The setting
The Ranch Hudson Valley is a handsome lakefront estate, located on 200 acres amidst a bucolic forest. JP Morgan had the manor built as a wedding gift for his daughter, who married the great-grandson of Alexander Hamilton. Today, the estate is meant to feel like a tasteful friend’s home. It’s contemporary and serene, the perfect spot for some serious pampering (and meaningful transforming). It’s hard to believe you’re less than an hour outside of New York City.
The resort is open year round and, weather permitting, water activities are a must: you can paddle board, kayak and swim in the lake. In the winter, there’s sledding. At night, cozy up by the outdoor fireplace and look up; limited light pollution allows for some stellar stargazing. Regardless of the time of year, however, you’ll actively explore the estate’s natural surroundings (hiking is a core tenet of The Ranch’s award-winning wellness program).
This is a luxury health getaway after all, so after a full day of nourishment (in more ways than one), you’ll retreat to one of 25 well-appointed guest rooms (all of which are deliberately sans television and distinct in their design), where you’ll likely experience some of the best sleep of your life.
The programming
Choose from their three-night or four-night offerings, each of which has been optimized for sustainable, nourishing nutrition, fitness and lifestyle routines. The Ranch isn’t intended to be a temporary, “quick fix.” The company is rooted in habits that last.
The transformative program begins 30 days prior to arrival. The Ranch’s team of experts will extend exercise, diet and lifestyle recommendations tailored to you and your goals, which you can implement before arriving onsite. Weight loss is a common focus, but many guests have other goals in mind. Not to worry: everything is personalized (portion sizes will be titrated up or down, for instance, or some guests may need additional snacks throughout the day).
When you do arrive, all you need to worry about is following the program. The Ranch removes decision fatigue and takes care of everything so you can focus on tuning in, getting in touch with your body and, believe it or not, having fun.
A set daily schedule allows ample time for both vigor and relaxation. Mornings include guided stretching sessions and a challenging hike lasting two to four hours. In the afternoons, there’s designated nap time (yes, really), restorative yoga, strength training classes, fitness classes and your daily massage session, all of which are included in the programming. You’ll also have free time to enjoy, ideally spent at the estate’s indoor pool, infrared sauna or hot-and-cold contrast plunge pools, all of which are housed in the resort’s 5,000-square-foot solarium. There are lots of secret nooks to relax scattered throughout, so leave time for exploring.
If you want to additional activity, you can visit either of The Ranch’s two gyms, each outfitted with Peloton bikes and treadmills. There’s also an outdoor pool and hot tub to enjoy during your unstructured time (or additional nap time, because sleep is wellness). If you want to really dive in, complementary treatments abound: colonics, IV therapy, energy healing, sound baths and more all are all available. (See more spa getaways to add to your repertoire.)
The food
And although health is top of mind here, your palette won’t suffer. Guests savor three plant-based meals per day, plus morning and afternoon snacks. When it comes to calories, The Ranch prioritizes quality over quantity (pretty much everything is organic and locally sourced); no calorie counting here. Weekly cooking classes impart nutritional knowledge and sustainable habits, while optional wellness and nutrition discussions offer additional opportunities for conscious, judgment-free education on all things health.
Deprivation was never the goal. Instead, you’ll leave feeling rejuvenated and uplifted, strong and detoxified. And the minute you leave, you’ll be thinking about when you can return.
