Sometimes, you just need to unplug. Like, really unplug. And if you think that taking a true break from the modern world requires hard-core camping, think again.

Getaway House is the new (cool) nature-escape kid on the block, and they excel at helping people actually unplug — in style. Their charming (and supremely cozy) tiny cabin rentals are all within two hours of a major city in the US, from Seattle to Raleigh. As a result, Getaway’s tiny cabins are perfect for easy weekend getaways, or for fun sojourns on a good-old-fashioned road trip.

The best part? You won’t have to sacrifice comfort — more on that below.

Read on for three reasons you need Getaway House in your life. Then, connect with me to plan and book your getaway cabin today.

1. Getaway House makes it easy to escape into nature

Spoiler alert: you don’t have to go completely off the grid for several weeks to hit reset. Nor do you have to spend all that time planning the logistics such a trip would entail (food, water, toilet paper...).

Getaway House’s founder and CEO, Jon Staff, recognized how important easy access — and the possibility for spontaneity — would be, which is why all Getaway cabins are at most a two-hour drive from a major US city. Does New York’s hustle have you a bit...on edge? Not to worry: you can escape to the Catskills. Los Angeles driving you a bit crazy? Opt for a cabin at Getaway House Big Bear, with unbeatable views of the San Bernardino mountains. ATL's energy starting to wear you down? Escape to Getaway House Atlanta's Chattahoochee location, with onsite walking trails and nearby waterfalls to explore.

Unplugging shouldn’t be more complicated — or more work — than navigating the stresses of daily life. You’ll be sent your Outpost’s address about a week before your trip. (Think of Getaway’s Outposts as modern camping grounds.) The day of check-in, you’ll get your specific cabin’s location and door code. Park in your designated parking spot, type in the code and voilà: vacation has commenced.

The process is already simple, and it’s made even more so when you book with me. I’ll help you decide which location will best suit your needs, and take care of the logistics and booking. All you have to worry about is arriving and relaxing.

2. Getaway House’s tiny cabins are actually fun to stay in

I have nothing against camping, but once you’ve been glamping — while still reaping the mental benefits camping affords — it’s a bit difficult to go back.

Getaway’s modern cabin rentals have both heating and air conditioning. Translation? You can enjoy your glamping moment any time of year. And the cabins are stylishly minimalist (think sleek wooden walls, big windows and perfect lighting) and have everything you need to stay clean and comfortable. Opt for a cabin with a queen bed or bunks, both of which come with bedding — no need to bring your sleeping bag (*sigh of relief*).

Cabin kitchenettes come equipped with a two-burner stove, a sink, a mini-fridge, cookware, dishware, silverware — even olive oil and S & P. You can also purchase additional provisions like coffee, tea and hot chocolate (highly recommend). Each cabin has its own delightful outdoor hang-out area, complete with a picnic table and chairs, a fire pit (get ready for s’mores) and a grill grate. (Firewood, fire starter, charcoal and s’mores kits are available for purchase.)

And yes: you will have a private bathroom. Getaway House has proven that a nature escape can indeed include hot showers. Plus, they provide all-natural shampoo, conditioner and body wash.

3. Getaway House has thought of everything

The company really does mind the details. And in the travel industry especially, details make all the difference. I love, for instance, how each cabin is named after the grandparent of a staff member or guest. I love how there’s a lockbox for sequestering your cellphone. (Do it.) I love how some cabins, depending on the location, lack cell service altogether. And I love that there’s a landline in each cabin juuuuust in case.

The tiny cabins come with tiny libraries, where you’ll find books, cards and a delightful activity booklet. Spend the day reading as you take in the views — and the quiet! — or exploring a nearby hiking trail.

So whether your ideal getaway is near the stunning Mount Vernon, outside Seattle, or amid the hemlocks of Lisbon, Ohio, less than an hour outside of Pittsburgh, or in Brazos Valley, a favorite Getaway House Houston Outpost — or somewhere else entirely! — you’d be surprised by the tranquility that awaits, right in your backyard.
