Things to do in Berlin, Germany

Day one

Book a private walking tour of all the key sights in the heart of town. Brandenburg Gate, Gehry Interior, Reichstag Parliament Building (Schedule a lunch atop Kafer Dachgarten for an amazing view of the city) Holocaust Memorial, Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie. Did you know Berlin has more bridges than Venice?

Day two

Time to explore some of the cool neighborhoods of the city. Head over to the transformed East Berlin neighborhood of Friedrichshain. Visit the East Side Gallery to see the murals along the wall. Stop at Raw Tempel, another example of repurposed space. A former train station that is now a multifunctional center. Continue walking to Boxhagener Kiez, a trendy part of Friedrichshain, with lots of cool cafes and shops to check out.

Then venture on over to another trendy neighborhood called Kreutzberg. After lunch, continue along the way you will see Berlin's unique art gallery built in a 1960's brutalist church called Konig Gallery, also known as St. Agnes Church. End the day at Mauer Park in Prenzlauer Berg district, yet another fantastic neighborhood.

Day three

Take a leisurely cruise on the River Spree that flows through Berlin. The city grew around this river, a great way to view the amazing and eclectic architecture of the city.

Visit a few of the museums situated along Museum Row. Berlin’s Museum Island is a grand work of art: five world-famous buildings form an exciting ensemble that was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 1999.

Day trips

Potsdam and see Sanssouci Palace (The Versailles of Germany) This is easily the most popular Berlin day trip for first-time visitors to the city. A 1-hour train ride outside the city center easily reached via train (You would need to add a 4th day for this).

Need to know

While Berlin doesn't have one distinct shopping district per se. Instead, it has a sprawling retail landscape that includes shops like: Andreas Murkudis, Soto, Final Layer, Overkill, The Store X and Bikini Berlin to name a few. Also, Berlin's trademark department store KaDeWe.

Also, please, please opt for a great private guide. When you see the landmarks, there is so much history to unpack. You should have an expert historian help you understand.
