Curator’s statement
Let's be honest, you could spend a month in Italy and still be left with so much to explore. In this 14-day itinerary, you are going to mostly traverse the northern region with two exceptions: Rome and Sardinia. I originally wrote this itinerary as a honeymoon proposal, so you can bet it is heavy on the romance. What's really amazing is that each area you visit has a vastly different culture than the next. You are truly going to get a little taste of these unique Italian delights. Just be prepared. You will want to come back for more!

Day 1: Rome
Upon arrival in Rome, take in the grandeur of the city. Begin the day with a visit to the iconic Trevi Fountain and the historic Pantheon. Have lunch at a local pizzeria in the Trevi area called Pizza Trevi (not the most original name, but great pizza nonetheless). Make your way east and wander through the charming streets of the Trastevere neighborhood. This is my favorite part of the city! Conclude the day with a delectable dinner at Pasta e Vino Osteria, savoring authentic Italian flavors.
Day 2: Rome
Immerse yourself in Rome's ancient history by exploring the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Enjoy a delicious sandwich from 200 Gradi, followed by a stop for gelato at Gelateria dei Gracchi. In the early evening, visit the Vatican Museums to admire their vast art collections. I recommend going for their happy hour package which includes wine, snacks and entry into the museum. Following, relish dinner at Acquaroof Terrazza Molinari, where you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the city.
Day 3: Rome
It’s time for a day trip! Head to Roma Termini to catch a train to Naples. From there you will embark on a trip to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius, marveling at the ancient ruins and the impressive volcanic landscape. There are many options of bus tours straight from Rome, but stopping in Naples along the way isn’t a bad way to enjoy Italy!
Day 4: Sardinia
Now that you have experienced the city, you must experience the beach. Take a short flight to Sardinia’s northern coast and the city of Olbia. The Costa Smeralda area is where you are going to find some of the most beautiful beaches, not only in Italy, but in the world! Check into your hotel in Porto Cervo and relax on this first day in Sardinia.
Day 5: Sardinia
Relax and enjoy a leisurely day at Spiaggia del Giglio (spiaggia meaning beach or shore), followed by a traditional cooking class to savor the island's authentic flavors. I highly recommend browsing Eat with to find a class that calls to you.
Day 6: Sardinia
Today is your last day in Sardinia and you are on the move! Experience the crystal-clear waters of Sardinia with a private boat rental for snorkeling and exploration while you discover the beauty of La Maddalena. Utilize this full day tour to soak in the sun and hopefully swim with some dolphins.
Day 7: Portofino
It’s time for a change of scenery. Fly to Portofino and begin the exploration of this charming coastal town. Once you land, explore the neighborhood surrounding your hotel and walk along the water.
Day 8: Portofino
Embark on a scenic hike at Parco di Portofino. Indulge in a delightful lunch at Langosteria Paraggi and visit Marina Protetta Portofino and Castello Brown. Enjoy drinks and snacks at the Al Faro di Portofino Lounge before a delicious dinner at O Magazin where you will sit on the water and enjoy fresh caught seafood.
Day 9: Portofino
There is more to explore in the Portofino region! Take a boat ride to Santa Margherita and Rapallo for a day of coastal exploration. These lesser-known towns have so much character, amazing food, and great little shops to pop into.
Day 10: Lake Como
You are on the move again and headed to Lake Como. You can travel by train or by car (it is about the same time), but I suggest traveling by car so you can do a stopover in Milan for a little bit.
Day 11: Lake Como
This is your only full day in Lake Como, so take it all in! Relax with a spa day at your hotel and enjoy an iconic and serene boat ride around Lake Como.
Day 12: Venice
There is one nonstop train from Como to Venice per day and that is how you are going to get to Venice. As you may know, there are no cars in Venice and you will be doing a lot of walking around. Of course you will be taking water taxis, but being on foot allows you to discover every nook and cranny that Venice has to offer. Delight in a sumptuous dinner at Osteria Enoteca Ai Artisi and savor drinks at the infamous Gritti Palace.
Day 13: Venice
Take one of those beautiful wooden water taxis over to Murano Island and participate in a glassmaking class, experiencing the artistry firsthand. Murano is known for its glass blown art and you can not only purchase some beauties, but you’ll be able to create some too!
Day 14: Venice
Enjoy your final day in Italy as you explore the grandeur of the Doge’s Palace and San Marco Basilica. Enjoy an espresso at Cafe Florian, relish lunch at Estro, shop for pastries at Pasticceria Tonolo and end the day with a magical sunset gondola ride and a delightful dinner at Restaurant la Caravella.
