Things to do in Lake Tahoe

  • Skiing & snowboarding: There is plenty of options for an avid skier or snowboarder at Lake Tahoe. Try your hand at the ungroomed off-piste slopes Palisades Tahoe is famous for or check out prime resort conditions at Heavenly Resort or North Star Resort.

  • Heavenly Gondola: Take the scenic gondola ride up to the top of the mountain just behind South Lake Tahoe, to get sweeping views of Lake Tahoe below.

  • Emerald Bay State Park: Located 12 miles north of South Lake Tahoe offers calm waters and sand beaches. It is important to note that the beaches can only be reached via hiking. You can also check out the Scandinavian style castle, Vikingsholm.

  • Donner Memorial State Park: This California state park is located just north of Lake Tahoe. The park offers a memorial to the Donner Party, picnic area, hiking trails, beaches and fishing.

  • Pope Beach: Located on the southside of Lake Tahoe, this three-quarter-mile sandy beach offers plenty of area for swimming, picnics and relaxation.

  • Boat tours: There are more options than imaginable for boat tours of Lake Tahoe. You can choose between a sunset, dinner, sightseeing, fishing or a speedboat cruise to name a few.

  • Golf: There are numerous golf courses located all around Lake Tahoe. Try your hand at Edgewood Tahoe course which annually hosts American Century Celebrity Golf Championship.

  • Gambling: There are numerous casinos located on the Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe that are perfect for a night of fun or a way to spend one of the few bad weather days in South Lake Tahoe.

Places to eat & drink in Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe:

  • Beach House: Enjoy lake views while having burgers, salad and local wines and beers.

  • Edgewood Restaurant: This upscale eatery offers contemporary American food with a view of the lake.

  • The Oyster Bar: This counter served tavern atmosphere offers plenty of oysters, mussels, jambalaya and gumbo.

  • Stateline Brewery & Restaurant: Enjoy some pub grub, pizza and local beers in this laid-back atmosphere.

Other locations around the lake:

  • Sunnyside Restaurant: This iconic restaurant on Lake Tahoe offers American cuisine to be enjoyed outside or inside.

  • River Ranch Lodge: Grab your typical American fare that offers something for everyone.

  • Lone Eagle Grill: Grab a glass of wine and enjoy lake views and American cuisine.

  • Crystal Bay Steak and Lobster: This classic steakhouse offers luxury meals in the rich history of Crystal Bay Casino.
