Curator’s statement

Maybe it’s the weather and the fact that most of Arizona gets 300+ days of sunshine. Maybe it’s that Arizona has everything but a beach, such as skiing and pine tree forests in the north, lakes throughout that are great for boating and gorgeous sunsets in the desert. Or maybe it’s the great good, Tucson was the first city selected as a City of Gastronomy in the world! Whatever it is, Arizona has some amazing hotels that are perfect for whatever it is you want to enjoy in this beautiful state. Here are the best places to stay in Arizona to help guests recharge (Ritz Carlton at Dove Mountain), find their inner cowboy (Tanque Verde Guest Ranch) and enjoy the natural (L'Auberge and Boulders) or architectural (Arizona Biltmore) beauty around them.

Things to do in Arizona

Boulders Resort & Spa, Curio Collection by Hilton

Upon arriving at the Boulders, guests would probably think that the boulders that give the resort its name are fake. They are, in fact, very much real, giving the Boulders Resort an almost supernatural look. Named the Best Hotel in Arizona by Travel + Leisure, as well as the Best Golf Resort in the Southwest by Gold Digest, the Boulders Resort & Spa is in a category of its own in more ways than one. The 33,000 square-foot spa focuses on connecting mind and body while providing the utmost relaxation. The outdoors also offers a wide array of activities for many interests, whether it’s rock climbing, stargazing with an astronomer, bird watching, a moonlight bike ride, horseback riding or even a hot air balloon ride over the Sonoran Desert. Want something a little bit more physically exciting? Then try the ATV tours or a seven hour adventure to the Grand Canyon. Guests will certainly work up an appetite, and there are several options that can delight any taste, including the Spotted Donkey Cantina and its 46 varieties of tequila. Although there is something for the whole family, the Boulders Resort is a preferred property for couples and weddings, offering natural beauty that is a lover’s paradise.

Ritz-Carlton at Dove Mountain

Located in Marana, a few miles north of Tucson, is the incomparable Ritz-Carlton at Dove Mountain. Host of several world-class golf championships, the Ritz-Carlton offers top amenities in the seclusion of the Tortolita Mountains. Wellness and complete relaxation are this property’s specialty. Guests are treated to mountain hikes, meditation, yoga, personal training, massages and experiences that focus on the mind/body connection. The various al-fresco dining options provide a stunning landscape that creates a complete experience. Bringing the whole family to the Ritz? Kids ages 5 to 12 can participate in the Ritz Kids Rangers program with several exciting activities that include animal encounters and outdoor expeditions. The Ritz-Carlton at Dove Mountain is a great hotel for families and couples, and it provides an unforgettable backdrop for weddings and corporate events.

L'Auberge de Sedona

No list of hotels in Arizona is complete without including properties in the northern part of the state, and L’Auberge de Sedona is a fan favorite. Offering stunning views of Sedona’s famous Red Rocks and sitting just above the many creeks in the area, L’Auberge is a place where guests can let their creativity out of the box. Beyond their spa and holistic treatments, the property has a unique apothecary blending station that delights guests with unique products. Given that the property sits in the middle of spectacular natural forces, L’Auberge focuses on sustainability without losing on comfort. Guests can also experience an artful connection by immersing themselves in artist events. The Artist in Resident engages guests with other local artists and helps them explore their more creative side. With so many activities on-site, it’s easy to forget to go out and explore the many other attractions, hikes and food scenes in Sedona and surrounding areas. L’Auberge has something for everyone, but is most suitable for families with older children, solo travelers or couples.

Arizona Biltmore

The Arizona Biltmore is a perfect property in the middle of a large city that feels like you're in the suburbs. Designed with a heavy influence from famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the Biltmore provides serenity. From the lush gardens and beautiful statues throughout, as well as the comfort and amenities, you will forget you're in the largest city in Arizona. There are several food options on the property, including a casual gelato shop. Whether it's a casual lunch or a romantic dinner, the food at the Biltmore is superb. The property also provides fun for the whole family and includes numerous pools. The iconic Wrigley Mansion is within walking distance, so Biltmore guests can take a tour or enjoy an expansive brunch. Many attractions, including Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West, and lots of shopping are only minutes away from the Biltmore.

Tanque Verde Guest Ranch

Nestled near the Rincon Mountains of eastern Tucson, the Tanque Verde Guest Ranch was named #1 Top Resort in the Southwest by Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2021. If you've ever wondered if you have what it takes to be a cowboy, then this is the place to find out. Guests can enjoy many exciting activities, including horseback riding, mountain biking, fishing, hiking and more. With only 69 rooms, this all-inclusive property does not skimp on creature comforts. Amenities include a spa, chef-prepared food and casitas that can accommodate up to six guests, making it a true home away from home. The spectacular sunsets and desert landscape might make guests forget that the hustle and bustle of the city is just minutes away. However, they'll be happy to enjoy all the activities or relaxation that they desire at the ranch.
