Things to do in Reykjavik

The blue lagoon in Iceland, with blue water between rocks on a clear day.
  1. Hallgrimskirkja: This is the cathedral in Reykjavik and it is STUNNING!

  2. Sky Lagoon: This hot spring spa experience is very close to Reykjavik and has an amazing view over the water. The seven-step ritual is a MUST!

  3. Blue Lagoon: Yes, everyone goes to this one, but there's a reason for that: it's great! You'll experience a totally different vibe than Sky Lagoon but it's worth it! Splurge for the extra face masks.

  4. Golden Circle Expedition: If you've rented a car then this is totally doable in a day. A quick Google search will give you all of the hot spots to hit. However, if you're looking for a more structured tour experience there are plenty of tour operators to cater to your specific requests!

  5. Northern Lights Expedition: We actually booked a northern lights tour and cancelled it because we could see them perfectly from the waterfront! However, there are many options to see the northern lights. The next time I go, I want to do the northern lights snowmobiling experience — so fun!

Places to eat & drink in Reykjavik

A gourmet hot dog with fried onions on a paper bag in front of a window.
  1. Messinn: This was my favorite meal in Reykjavik! The vibe is cozy, the food is good and the price is right! Make a reservation — you won't regret it!

  2. Kaldi Bar: This unassuming little bar has amazing drinks and the perfect atmosphere. We stopped by here each night of our stay in Reykjavik — that's how much we liked it!

  3. Farm Efstidalur: While day-tripping around the Golden Circle, you MUST stop at this farm restaurant. The burgers are delicious and the fresh, house-made ice cream and skyr are the perfect sweet treat! You can even take some skyr to-go for breakfast the next morning.

  4. Bæjarins Beztu: Yes, it's a hot dog place but listen — IT'S SO GOOD! Just try it. Seriously.
