Curator’s statement

Cabo is a popular vacation spot for a reason: spectacular landscapes, abundant sunshine, delicious food and drinks, opportunities to get out and explore and a quick direct flight from most US cities. But with so many gorgeous resorts lining its beaches, it can feel overwhelming to find the right resort for your next family vacation in Cabo. Here are a few of my favorite resorts that provide plenty of space and amenities for families, without sacrificing comfort and style.

The best family-friendly resorts in Cabo

The Waldorf Astoria pool surrounded by rocks, tan-colored buildings and mountains.

WALDORF ASTORIA PEDREGAL

Despite its location smack dab in the middle of Cabo San Lucas, you would never know it after traveling through Mexico’s only private tunnel to arrive at the stunning Waldorf Astoria Pedregal. Nestled into the mountains and overlooking a stretch of pristine private beach, Waldorf Astoria Pedregal offers a serene and relaxing beach vacation.

Why I love it for families:

A variety of spacious accommodation types, including many two and three bedroom options with kitchen and laundry. Each room/suite/casita/villa comes with its own plunge pool, perfect for enjoying while the kiddos nap. A shallow, family-friendly pool sits centrally located in the center of the resort. And the Tortuguitas Kids Club welcomes kids ages 5–12 for activities from 9 am – 4 pm for an additional fee. Service is genuine, friendly and attentive.

CHILENO BAY

Chic, contemporary and comfortable, Chileno Bay is one of the only Cabo resorts to offer a swimmable stretch of beach. Three cascading pools form the centerpiece of the hotel, surrounded by stylish restaurants, and when you get to the ocean, a short path takes you to the beach where Chileno Bay offers complimentary snorkeling, kayaking and paddleboarding. A fantastic spa and varied locally-inspired experiences make this a great spot for adults too.

Why I love it for families:

Plenty of 1–5 bedroom villas are available with full kitchens, including a 6-bedroom oceanfront villa for multi-gen families. Having access to a swimmable beach with snorkeling, paddleboarding and kayaking is a great option for older kids. The Pescaditos Kids Club offers daily activities for kids ages 4–11. There is also a cool hangout “teens space” for kids ages 12+ to visit at their leisure, and an on-site cinema provides a break from the sun.

GRAND VELAS LOS CABOS

This is not your typical All-Inclusive resort. Grand Velas Los Cabos is a 5-star, AAA Five-Diamond resort. The 307 suites are all spacious with ocean views, the food at the resort’s seven restaurants is actually delicious, the spa is 35,000 square feet of pure relaxation and service is top-notch. You can do as little or as much as you’d like at this resort: daily activities like morning yoga, beach soccer or cooking classes are always available or you can enjoy a perfect margarita at one of their three pools.

Why I love it for families:

Grand Velas Los Cabos goes out of its way to make traveling with kids as easy as possible. 2-Bedroom Family Suites guarantee connecting King and Queen/Queen rooms with plenty of space for everyone to spread out. The Kids Club provides a full schedule of daily activities for kids ages 4–12 and a Teens Club is a supervised but nonetheless very cool place for kids ages 13–18 to spend some time with live entertainment and a bar serving non-alcoholic drinks. Babysitting services and a “baby concierge” are provided for the little kiddos. And since it’s all-inclusive, that means that you aren’t stressing about those uneaten chicken fingers once you arrive.

VILLA RENTAL

Sometimes you need a little more space to spread out or want a little more privacy and seclusion than is offered at a traditional resort. Through our network of vetted partners, we have access to some great villas across Cabo to suit any family size, type or need. Villas typically come with concierge and housekeeping service, and chef service can always be added as well.

Why I love it for families:

Villas are perfect for multi-generational trips or groups of friends and families traveling together. They allow for everyone to be together, yet enough space for everyone to be comfortable. Having a kitchen and laundry makes traveling with kids infinitely easier, and when you have your own personal housekeeper, concierge and chef, it means you get a vacation too.
