Need to know

Roatán is a laid-back island where things move on “island time,” so expect a slower pace and be patient — it’s part of the charm. US dollars are widely accepted, but it’s handy to carry small bills and some Honduran lempira for local shops. Taxis don’t use meters, so agree on a fare before getting in, and if you're renting a car or scooter, be cautious on narrow roads. Lastly, don’t skip the bug spray — mosquitoes can be active, especially in the evenings near the water.
