A note from Brittani

Walking around Lahaina and seeing the Banyan Tree can be fun for kids! The town is lively and has plenty of ice cream and shave ice shops to delight little travelers.

Day 2: Road to Hana

A lush forest with a road towards the right and red car driving down the road. There is fog in the air and clouds in the sky.

Early Morning: Begin your journey on the Road to Hana! The drive has stops at gorgeous Twin Falls, Waiʻānapanapa State Park (with its black sand beach), and Hana Town.

Kids will love exploring the waterfalls and natural pools. Make sure to pack snacks and games for the car ride to keep them entertained on the drive.

Afternoon: Explore Hana and the surrounding area.

Evening: Return and relax! Get ready for another relaxing Hawaiian meal.

Day 3: Haleakala National Park

A person standing towards the right of the image outside at night with mountains, a sunset and a blue sky in the surrounding areas.

Early Morning: Head to Haleakala for sunrise (reservations needed).
Disclaimer: This might be challenging for very young children due to the early start and cold, but older children will find the sunrise magical.

Afternoon: Hike in the park or explore the visitor centers.

Evening: Enjoy a leisurely dinner back at your accommodation.

Day 4: West Maui Mountains and Beach

A birds-eye-view of a turquoise blue water, white sand beaches, sandbars, trees and a boat sailing across the water.

Morning: Explore the West Maui Mountains, perhaps with a hike or helicopter tour.

Afternoon: Relax at Ka'anapali Beach and snorkel at Black Rock. Ka'anapali Beach is great for families and offers clear waters for snorkeling and swimming. The beach walk is stroller-friendly, and there are often Hawaiian sea turtles to spot near the shore.

Evening: Have dinner at Whalers Village.

Day 5: Snorkeling and Maui Ocean Center

A far view of a person snorkeling in the water.

Morning to Afternoon: Take a snorkeling tour to Molokini Crater or Turtle Town. These guided tours offer unique underwater experiences with vibrant marine life. They can introduce children to snorkeling in a safe and controlled environment.

Afternoon: Visit the Maui Ocean Center to learn about Hawai'i's marine life and conservation efforts. This aquarium is a hit for families, offering close-up views of marine life and interactive exhibits.

Evening: Enjoy a relaxed dinner at one of the Maalaea Harbor restaurants.

Day 6: Upcountry Maui

A glass of wine looking over a vineyard that is blurred out in the background.

Morning: Visit the Upcountry region. Start with the Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm for serene landscapes and unique products. With its open spaces and beautiful gardens, the farm is great for kids to explore.

Afternoon: Explore the town of Makawao, known for its cowboy history and art galleries. Consider visiting a winery like MauiWine for a tasting. While a winery might seem adult-focused, MauiWine has a spacious lawn where kids can run around and the estate's history and animals are interesting for all ages.

Evening: Dinner in Pā'ia, a quaint town with excellent food options.

Day 7: Leisure and Departure

A river running through a lush green forest.

Morning: Enjoy a leisurely breakfast. If time permits, visit 'Īao Valley State Park for a short hike and to see the 'Īao Needle.

Afternoon: Last-minute shopping or beach visit, depending on flight time.

Evening: Depart from Kahului Airport, concluding your Maui adventure.

Additional Tips

Bring layers for Haleakalā sunrise and comfortable shoes for hiking.

  • Reservations: Besides Haleakalā sunrise, book snorkeling tours and restaurant reservations in advance, and with kids make sure to pace activities to prevent overtiredness.

  • Exploration: Use extra days to adjust the pace, spend more time at locations that interest you, or add spontaneous stops!
