Day 1: Exploring the geothermal marvels of Yellowstone

Begin your adventure by entering the park through the West Entrance, just a short drive from your home base at Under Canvas West Yellowstone. Start your morning at the West Thumb Geyser Basin, where a network of boardwalks takes you past bubbling hot springs and steaming vents along the edge of Yellowstone Lake. This area’s surreal beauty is the perfect introduction to the park’s geothermal wonders. From there, head toward Old Faithful, the park’s most famous geyser. Time your visit to catch one of its dramatic eruptions, which occur approximately every 90 minutes.
Spend your late morning exploring the Upper Geyser Basin, home to a variety of colorful hot springs and smaller geysers. Adventurous travelers should consider hiking the Observation Point Trail for panoramic views of the basin and surrounding area. By lunchtime, you’ll have worked up an appetite. Stop for a meal at the historic Old Faithful Inn, or enjoy a packed picnic in one of the nearby scenic areas.
In the afternoon, make your way to the stunning Grand Prismatic Spring in the Midway Geyser Basin. To truly appreciate its vibrant colors, hike to the Fairy Falls Overlook for an unparalleled aerial view. As the day winds down, return to Under Canvas West Yellowstone, where you can relax in a luxurious glamping style and enjoy the serene wilderness surroundings. It’s the perfect place to rest up for another full day of exploration.
Day 2: A day of waterfalls and wildlife

Your second day begins with a hearty breakfast at Under Canvas West Yellowstone before heading to the breathtaking Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Start by visiting both the North Rim and South Rim, each offering unique perspectives of the majestic Lower Falls and Upper Falls. For a more immersive experience, take the challenging Uncle Tom’s Trail, which descends deep into the canyon for an up-close view of the waterfalls. The effort is well worth it for the stunning vistas you’ll encounter.
Afterward, head to Artist Point, one of the park’s most photographed locations. The views from this iconic spot are a great place to pause for a packed lunch or quick snack. Following your meal, drive through Hayden Valley, a wildlife enthusiast’s dream. Keep your binoculars handy — this area is prime territory for spotting bison, bears and even wolves in their natural habitat.
In the late afternoon, explore the unique geothermal features of the Mud Volcano and Sulphur Caldron. These sites showcase Yellowstone’s more alien landscapes, with bubbling mud pots and sulfuric vents creating a surreal atmosphere. As evening approaches, return to Under Canvas West Yellowstone for a gourmet dinner around the campfire and a chance to stargaze under Yellowstone’s clear night sky.
Day 3: Remote valleys and soothing hot springs

Rise early on your final day and head to Lamar Valley, often referred to as the “Serengeti of North America.” This remote area is best explored at sunrise, when wildlife activity is at its peak. Watch for herds of bison, packs of wolves and even grizzly bears. The peaceful atmosphere and golden morning light make this an unforgettable part of your trip.
Next, visit Tower Falls, a hidden gem in Yellowstone. The short hike to its viewpoint offers close-up views of this picturesque waterfall plunging into a canyon below. This lesser-known spot is ideal for those looking to escape the crowds and enjoy the natural beauty in a quieter setting. For lunch, find a scenic picnic area nearby to savor a meal surrounded by nature.
Spend your afternoon at Mammoth Hot Springs, where you can explore the park’s famous travertine terraces. These unique formations are created by the constant flow of mineral-rich water. Before leaving, stop by the Albright Visitor Center to learn more about Yellowstone’s history and geothermal wonders. If time allows and conditions permit, cap off your trip with a soothing dip in the Boiling River, where natural hot springs mix with cooler river water for a one-of-a-kind experience.
As your Yellowstone adventure comes to an end, return to Under Canvas West Yellowstone for one final evening of relaxation. Enjoy the crackling campfire and reflect on your incredible journey through this iconic national park.
