US Open sessions

At the US Open, gates open either at 9:30 am or 11 am, depending on the session you attend. If you choose a day session, you'll have the evening free to enjoy a Broadway show, adding another layer of excitement to your New York City experience. For those attending an evening session, consider spending the morning exploring Central Park or immersing yourself in the art and culture of one of the city's renowned museums. Whether you're cheering on your favorite players during the day or under the lights, strategic planning ensures you make the most of your US Open experience while still enjoying the vibrant offerings of the Big Apple. And remember, I'm here to assist with show recommendations or ticketing help to enhance your trip even further!

Exploring New York

While you're here, take advantage of all that New York has to offer:

  • Downtown adventures: Begin your day with a visit to the Freedom Tower for panoramic views of New York City, then pay your respects at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. Afterward, take a leisurely stroll across the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, admiring the city skyline and waterfront along the way. Conclude your day with a delicious slice of pizza at Juliana’s in DUMBO, savoring the flavors of one of New York's most beloved pizzerias amidst the neighborhood's historic charm.

  • Central park activities: Alternatively, experience the tranquility of Central Park with a leisurely day filled with outdoor activities. Rent a rowboat and glide across the serene waters and under the bow bridge, taking in the lush greenery and picturesque skyline views. For a more active adventure, rent a Citibike and pedal through the park — just be aware of the hills! Whether you're seeking relaxation or adventure, Central Park offers the perfect escape amidst the hustle and bustle of New York City.

  • Cultural excursions: Immerse yourself in the wonders of the natural world at the American Museum of Natural History, a captivating destination ideal for families. Art enthusiasts will find endless inspiration at The Met and MoMA, home to vast collections spanning centuries and continents. These world-renowned institutions not only showcase artistic masterpieces but also offer insight into the diverse cultural heritage of New York City. Whether marveling at dinosaur fossils or gazing upon timeless works of art, a visit to these iconic museums promises a deeper appreciation for the city's rich cultural tapestry.

Places to eat & drink in New York City

A modern restaurant interior with a blend of booth and chair seating, pendant lights, and large windows.
  • Grand Central Oyster Bar: A New York institution since 1913, the Grand Central Oyster Bar is a must-visit for seafood lovers. Nestled in the historic Grand Central Terminal, this iconic restaurant is renowned for its extensive oyster selection, fresh seafood dishes and classic New York charm. The elegant, vaulted ceilings of the dining room, designed by renowned architect Rafael Guastavino, create a unique and inviting atmosphere. My personal favorite here is the oyster pan roast, a decadent dish that perfectly captures the restaurant's culinary excellence. Whether you’re indulging in a platter of freshly shucked oysters or enjoying a bowl of New England clam chowder, the Grand Central Oyster Bar promises a memorable dining experience.

  • Carmine’s Italian Restaurant: A beloved family-style Italian restaurant, Carmine’s is known for its generous portions and lively atmosphere. It's perfect for a hearty, classic Italian meal. The vibrant and friendly environment makes Carmine’s a great spot for a festive meal before or after catching a Broadway show.

  • Sushi of Gari 46: Just steps from Times Square, Sushi of Gari 46 offers an innovative sushi experience. Chef Masatoshi "Gari" Sugio creates inventive sushi dishes blending traditional techniques with modern flavors. The omakase menu is a particular highlight, featuring a curated selection of the freshest fish and inventive toppings. The intimate and serene setting provides a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Times Square, making it an ideal spot for a memorable and refined dining experience.

  • The Capital Grille: This renowned steakhouse is famous for its dry-aged steaks and extensive wine list. The elegant dining room and exceptional service provide a sophisticated setting for a memorable meal.

  • Pershing Square: Situated directly across from Grand Central Terminal, Pershing Square is a classic American bistro that exudes charm and warmth. Known for its bustling atmosphere and timeless appeal, it offers a diverse menu of comfort food favorites, making it an ideal spot for any meal of the day. Start your morning with their famous pancakes or eggs Benedict, or drop in for a hearty lunch or dinner with options like juicy burgers, crisp salads and grilled salmon.

  • Campbell Apartments: The Campbell Apartments is a hidden gem within Grand Central Terminal, offering a glimpse into New York's glamorous past. Originally the office of 1920s tycoon John W. Campbell, this luxurious cocktail lounge has been meticulously restored to its former grandeur. Step into a world of timeless elegance with its opulent décor, including a grand stone fireplace, intricate woodwork and plush furnishings. My recommendation? Try the signature Prohibition Punch, a delightful blend of gin, elderflower liqueur and fresh citrus.

  • Electric Lemon: Located atop the Equinox Hotel in Hudson Yards, Electric Lemon is a rooftop restaurant that combines modern elegance with breathtaking views of the New York skyline. Highlights include the yellowfin tuna tartare and the succulent dry-aged duck. The outdoor terrace is an ideal spot to enjoy a cocktail while taking in the panoramic views. I highly recommend the Electric Lemonade, a refreshing and tangy concoction perfect for a summer evening.

  • The Bar Downstairs - Situated in the chic Andaz 5th Avenue hotel, The Bar Downstairs offers a sophisticated and relaxed atmosphere for enjoying expertly crafted cocktails and delectable small plates. The subterranean setting is designed to evoke a sense of modern luxury, with its sleek décor, ambient lighting and cozy seating arrangements. My go-to recommendation is the Andaz Sling, a unique twist on the classic Singapore Sling with a blend of gin, cherry liqueur and fresh citrus. The Bar Downstairs is the perfect spot for a pre-theater drink or a stylish nightcap.

For more restaurant recommendations, feel free to ask. I’d also be happy to share my personal pizza favorites — L’Industrie or Bleecker Street Pizza are must-tries.
