A vast beach during a cloudy evening
Curator’s statement

You’ve likely seen a million Pinterest posts of “The Perfect Bachelorette Trip to Charleston,” and maybe they were all missing something (or rather had too many somethings). I planned a bachelorette trip for my best friend and two months later, we're still talking about how bad we want to go back. It’s a bachelorette destination for a reason. Large beach homes, plenty of restaurants willing to accommodate large parties, endless rooftop bars and a giant white, sandy beach that somehow never seems crowded. It has something for everyone, and on a large girls trip, it can be tough to fit something for everyone into the short time you have to spend together. Charleston makes it easy.

Where to stay

Day 1: Arrival

Multiple blue chairs and umbrellas lined up on a beach during the daytime

Everyone will likely arrive at different times. Have snacks ready to go at the house and once everyone is ready, stay close (everyone is likely tired from travel). Head to the beach bars. The Windjammer on Isle of Palms has concerts on the beach, or Shem’s Creek is a short 10-minute Uber ride, with a handful of bars on the canal touting rooftops and live music.

Day 2: To Charleston we go

Jewelry charms on a tray

You wake up refreshed and ready to take on Charleston! Have breakfast at the house while getting ready (get groceries the day you arrive). Catch an Uber and head downtown. The city is VERY walkable, but I’d suggest leaving the heels at home. King Street, which is the main strip, is filled with boutiques and bars. You can catch a buzz and spend a little too much money all in the matter of an afternoon (not like I know this from experience lol). I'd recommend making charm necklaces at Hart Jewelry. The rooftops usually have live bands or DJ’s, but bring your sunscreen, you’ll need it! Uptown Social, Ritual and Republic are fairly close, each with a different vibe. In my opinion, you can skip Rainbow Row, it was underwhelming. Follow this with dinner at a restaurant. Schedule well in advance and ask if they are good with accommodating large parties. Charleston is a foodie town, some great options for dinner are Frannie and the Fox, The Watch or 167 Raw Bar (for a smaller group). All are close to or on King Street.

Day 3: A day in the water

A black and gray three-story home with a pool in front

With a large group (in our case, 14 girls), convenience is key. Day three we kept it walkable. We woke up, walked to Acme Low Country Kitchen for an amazing southern breakfast then sipped pina coladas for lunch at the house (balance). We soaked in the sun, bouncing back and forth from the ocean to the pool and even walking down to the Windjammer for a drink and some tunes. If there's one thing I can tell you about any bachelorette: hire a private chef. The girls raved about the meal, and the convenience of not having to cook, or go anywhere and sit for an hour for your food to be ready was HUGE. Often, the cost comes out to what it would be at a restaurant anyway.

Day 4: Departure

Ride a bike taxi to go downtown and do your last minute shopping.

Sad day, you’re heading home. But if you have a late flight and time to spare, Charleston has several luggage storage options. We used Bounce, where you drop off your luggage and pick it up when you’re ready, but there are also pickup/delivery services like Charleston Bag Valet, which you can schedule in advance. This way you can head back downtown, do a bit more shopping and eating. A few quick but delicious bites I'd suggest are Spread Bagelry or The Pass. After this you can head home and come to terms with your post vacation blues after spending a magical weekend with all of your besties.

Need to know

Finding the right house for your group can really make your stay great, i.e.; if you get rained out one day, or are a little too tired to hit the road downtown, you will be just as happy relaxing with the people you came with. I’d recommend a beach house with a pool on Isle of Palms or Folly Beach. The early risers can get up and take a walk/run on the beach and the slow morning coffee drinkers can watch the waves roll in from the porch.

Be flexible! On our trip, we switched our beach day and our day downtown because the weather looked nicer and it worked out perfectly.
